Library Bytes

Term 2

As we come to the end of Term Two, we have seen a significant change in the weather, with this comes an increase of activity within the library space.

The library becomes more than a resource—it becomes a refuge.  A large number of students are enjoying our Quiet Study days, using recess and lunchtimes to bury themselves in their books.  In this space questions mature into research, group projects find their roots and where quiet, independent reading becomes a habit rather than a task.  The quiet rustle of pages turning and keyboards clicking is the perfect soundtrack of minds at work. Here, students learn not just facts, but how to think—how to question, connect and create.

With exams for our senior students at the end of Term Two, the library is a mirror of the academic journey - supportive and full of potential.  It has been wonderful to see so many students utilising the space for independent and collaborative study sessions.

Monday & Fridays

Tuesday Lunchtimes

In Term 2 we welcome back weekly sessions of Chess Club - this takes place at lunchtimes in the Learning Strategies space on Tuesdays.

Makerspace for Term 3

Celebrating National Reconciliation Week

May 27th - June 3rd

Key Points

  • National Reconciliation Week is held between May 27th and June 3rd each year.
  • The start and end dates mark major milestones in First Nations history.
  • 'Bridging Now to Next' is the theme for this year's week.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for Australians to learn about shared histories, cultures and achievements.

This year's NRW theme of 'Bridging Now to Next' reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.

NRW is celebrated every year, from May 27th to June 3rd, with these dates especially significant for First Nations peoples.

These dates "commemorate two significant milestones in our history", according to the CEO of Reconciliation Australia, Karen Mundine.

"The successful 1967 referendum, where 90.77 per cent of Australians voted 'yes' for Indigenous rights and the 1992 High Court Mabo decision, which overturned the lie of terra nullius — that this continent was unoccupied when the British arrived."

"Reconciliation is about building and strengthening relationships between First Nations peoples and other Australians, about understanding the true history of Australia’s colonisation.

"It is about justice for First Nations and a more united Australia that respects 65,000 years of First Nations cultures and achievements."

this song is (NOT) for you

Music is the second most important thing, I say. That was something my mother would always say. We've stopped saying it out loud, but I think it all the same. The most important thing is love.  Ramona fell for Sam the moment she met him. It was like she had known him forever. He's one of the few constants in her life and their friendship is just too important to risk for a kiss. Though she really wants to kiss him... Sam loves Ramona, but he would never expect her to feel the same way-she's too quirky and cool for someone like him. Still, they complement each other perfectly, both as best friends and as a band. Then they meet Tom. Tom makes music too and he's the band's missing piece. The three quickly become inseparable. Except Ramona's falling in love with Tom. But she hasn't fallen out of love with Sam either. How can she be true to her feelings and herself without losing the very relationships that make her heart sing?

GUINESS WORLD RECORDS 2025

To mark GWR's 70th birthday, we're throwing a party, starting off with a feast of retro features in the opening chapter that look back over our last seven decades. Of course, we're also highlighting the very best of record breaking from the past 12 months! This new edition - fully revised and updated with 1,000-plus images - salutes our milestone while continuing the annual tradition of serving up thousands of awesome facts and feats for the whole family to enjoy. GWR are celebrating our landmark year by bestowing platinum grade ICON status on a select group of record breakers - including Taylor Swift and LeBron James - who epitomize what it means to be a Guinness World Records title holder. Poster-style Flashback features within each chapter explore the history of one key record category. We also speculate about the ultimate limits of record-breaking - for instance, will we ever see a sub-3-second Rubik's Cube solve? Look out for our Dear GWR... features throughout the book. We've delved into our archives to find some never-before-seen record applications that didn't quite make the cut. It's our affectionate tribute to human inventiveness - and the evergreen fascination with securing a hallowed GWR certificate!
