Leader of Year 12 Wellbeing
Mr Peter Robertson
Term 2 has started smoothly for Year 12, with students returning to a flurry of Assessment results, HSC and university workshops/presentations, Major Works in development, new content in each of their courses and the list goes on.
All of this is in addition to the many responsibilities our students already have, such as part-time jobs, sporting commitments, TAFE or other training, family obligations, and a myriad of other activities that must be juggled alongside the HSC. The fact that the vast majority of our young men and women are coping so well with this reality is a credit to our year group.
We now have less than three months until the Trial HSC examinations in early August. Time moves so quickly when you’re having fun! So the number one priority at present for our Year 12 students is getting on top of all their subjects with one more formal task this term before the Trials start shortly after the next school holidays (July 7-18).
In the meantime, we have some significant events coming up this term, including our Reflection Day in Week 5, Athletics Carnival in Week 6 and Winter Sleepout in Week 8. Such events are wonderful opportunities for the cohort to have fun together and create lasting bonds and memories. Term 3 will be so busy with exams and Graduation activities, that this term is really their last full, ‘ normal ‘ term of school forever. So I am encouraging one and all to strive for their goals- academic, personal, career and otherwise, before the madness sets in. Now is the exact time to ‘seize the day‘!
Last week, we had our visit to Luna Park to celebrate Founder's Day and our Year 12’s entered into the spirit of the day with gusto, despite the inclement weather.
Yesterday many of our students attended the Sutherland Shire Careers Information Day, and during a recent ‘Thrive’ session, 2024 alumni, Shayla Plummer, returned to St Aloysius to impart her wisdom on how to smash the all important English exams. This is just a brief taste of what happens here on a regular basis, so every individual should be embracing something valuable and worthwhile in the here and now before it is too late and they are left with a sense of regret at ‘missing out‘ or ‘not doing enough‘.
