Mathematics

This week begins an exciting new chapter in St Aloysius College’s history with the launch of our first accelerated mathematics class. Through rigorous data analysis and preliminary trialing, we are pleased to announce we have a group of year 8 students who will be embarking on this fantastic journey, led by Mr Darrin Munro.

These students will be completing both the year 8 and 9 mathematics syllabus for the remainder of this year, with the help of a few early mornings, so that they are able to start the year 10 course next year. The end goal will be for these students to complete the HSC for Advanced and Extension 1 Mathematics in 2028, a year ahead of their cohort, which will allow them to devote themselves to their other subjects or develop a greater love of maths and select Extension 2 Mathematics the following year.

These opportunities for our students, as well as the target intervention programs already running at the College for literacy and numeracy, cannot occur without the support of Mrs Heffernan and the Diverse Learning team, Mr Munro, Intervention Coordinator, and the backing of Mr Mahoney and the executive team.
