THS Newsletter

Welcome to our first newsletter for the term! As you can see from this edition, it has been an action-packed start with a variety of curriculum, sporting, and extracurricular opportunities.

Firstly, I am thrilled to introduce our new and returning staff to THS. As I outlined in my letter at the start of the term, this puts our school in a very positive staffing position, particularly in the area of student wellbeing, with our school counsellor allocation now filled by two school psychologists. Our new staff have already settled in well and are a valuable addition to our team.

Congratulations to our Agricultural team, who definitely punched well above their weight, achieving excellent results and representing the school with exemplary standards. Thank you to Mr Phil Jones, Ms Olivia Parker, and Hughie for all the hard work that went into this competition.

Our cross-country event was a great success, showcasing not only some fantastic runners but also a lot of fun. It was wonderful to see Year 12 getting into the spirit of the day, and we are very much looking forward to what they will bring to the athletics carnival this Friday. A particular highlight will be the Jackson Memorial Sprint, and we are honoured to have Jackson's family in attendance once again. Please look out for photos and news on our Facebook page. Mr Craig Cook and Mrs Amanda Jones and many other staff, put an incredible amount of work into our carnivals and I am sure the day will be a great success.

One of the great things about being part of a small, close-knit community is the strong community spirit and the opportunity to get involved in local events. I know I have mentioned this several times, and it remains one of the highlights of being principal at THS. Coming up this Thursday, there is an opportunity to attend the regiment band performance, which will also be entertaining the school that day. Later this month, I encourage our trivia buffs, or anyone who just wants a great evening out, to participate in the Rotary Trivia Competition, a fundraiser for our Safe Driver Education program. Details about both these events are in this edition

We have also included information about the Tenterfield Eisteddfod, which we are thrilled to have back this year. Mr. Ben Ryan and Mr. James Kelly are already preparing our music and drama students for this exciting event.

Finally, congratulations to our school captain Ashah Hillier, who represented us in the Plain English Public Speaking competition. Ashah's topic was "Filling his shoes" and was about the wonderful legacy of our 2024 school captain, Jackson Clarke. It was wonderful tribute and very powerful speech. We have had many requests asking to read the speech, and are in the processing of publishing soon.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to a fantastic term ahead!
