Grade 4

English

In English, students continue to delve into the themes and characters in the novel The Wild Robot. Whilst analysing the text, students have developed their sentence-level writing skills with a focus on connective words (words that join sentences) as well as planning persuasive arguments. In the coming weeks, students will use their skills to write persuasive writing paragraphs, with a focus on writing a paragraph for the introduction, body and conclusion.

Mathematics

In mathematics, students have progress to a unit of length and area. In this unit, students have learnt concepts such as, measuring length in metric units and measuring the perimeter of shapes. In the coming weeks, students will shift their focus 2D shapes with a focus on concepts such as classifying two-dimensional shapes and identifying symmetry in shapes.

Students are also continuing to develop their automatic recall of important number facts, with many progressing to more complex algorithms and mathematical skills.

SWPBS - Dojo Points

At Barwon Heads Primary School, we value the importance of positive feedback in supporting student growth and wellbeing. Our Dojo Points system celebrates students who consistently demonstrate our core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Being Your Best. Students work towards earning 200 Dojo Points, which they can redeem for a special reward—either a movie session or a delicious donut! There are other milestones, please see attached document. This system helps motivate and encourage positive behaviour while reinforcing the strong, supportive culture of our school community.
