Explore the Learning in Grade 2
In Week 7, the Grade 2’s will conclude the Core Knowledge unit, ‘Fairytales and Tall Tales.’ Some of the stories explored will include, ‘Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, John Henry and Casey Jones.’ Their syntax and grammar focus will be on unscrambling sentences. In Week 8, the Grade 2’s will begin a new Core Knowledge Unit, ‘Natural Disasters.’ Their syntax and grammar focus will be on using the sentence stems, because, but and so.
During explicit phonics instruction, students will be learning to read and spell the new sounds, ‘ng’ and ‘q’ and ‘u’ in words such as ‘flung,’ ‘king’ ‘quit’ and ‘quiz.’ In handwriting, they will be focusing on anti-clockwise letters, ‘e’, ‘f’ ‘s’ and the ‘u’ family, ‘u’ and ‘y’. |
Students will read and write 4 digit numbers with zero hundreds, use positional language and explore multiplication by skip counting. Students are also continuing to develop their automatic recall of important number facts through fluency activities. |
At Barwon Heads Primary School, we value the importance of positive feedback in supporting student growth and wellbeing. Our Dojo Points system celebrates students who consistently demonstrate our core values. of Respect, Responsibility, and Being Your Best. Students work towards earning 200 Dojo Points, which they can redeem for a special reward—either a movie session or a delicious donut! They can choose to 'cash in' their dojo points when they get to 50, 100, or 150 points, for a different reward. This system helps motivate and encourage positive behaviour while reinforcing the strong, supportive culture of our school community.
