Grade 1

Explore the Learning in Grade 1

English

The Grade 1s are continuing their Core Knowledge unit, ‘Ancient Egypt.’ Over the next two weeks they will be learning about Tutankhamen and Hatshepsut and exploring key vocabulary such as 'chariot,' 'Pharaoh' and 'civilisation.' Students will be distinguishing between fragments and sentences and adding appropriate punctuation to create correct sentences.

During explicit phonics instruction, students will be learning to read and spell the sound /e/ in words such as 'end', 'east', 'eleven', 'enter.'

Mathematics

Over the next two weeks, the students will be making and saying 3-digit numbers using place value blocks. They will also be revising estimating length and working on comparing two different informal units of measurement. Students are also continuing to develop their automatic recall of important number facts through fluency activities.

SWPBS Dojo Points

At Barwon Heads Primary School, we value the importance of positive feedback in supporting student growth and wellbeing. Our Dojo Points system celebrates students who consistently demonstrate our core values. of Respect, Responsibility, and Being Your Best. Students work towards earning 200 Dojo Points, which they can redeem for a special reward—either a movie session or a delicious donut! They can choose to 'cash in' their dojo points when they get to 50, 100, or 150 points, for a different reward. This system helps motivate and encourage positive behaviour while reinforcing the strong, supportive culture of our school community.
