State Schools' Relief - Glasses for Kids program
Skye Primary School has been chosen to take part in the Glasses for Kids program.
This is being offered to students in Prep through to grade 3. GFK staff and qualified optometrists will visit our school and offer students who provide consent with initial screening and if required, further testing and glasses at no cost.
All screening and testing sessions will be completed during school hours.
- Data suggests from Victorian school visits 25% of students will have an underlying vision issue that could be affecting their learning
- Can children who currently wear glasses be part of GFK? Yes, they can! This is a great opportunity for students to get a spare pair that can be kept at school
- How can my child be part of the program? Parents/carers will need to complete a consent form for their child to participate in the program and be returned to the office - These forms are being sent home with your child/ren 1 form per child
- Parents will be given an outcome letter notifying them if glasses have been prescribed
- Students will have the opportunity to choose their glasses and be fitted on the day of the visit - Glasses are usually sent to the school within a few weeks of the visit.

Health advisory - Poisonous Mushrooms
Status: Active
Advisory number: 20250506
Date issued: 06 May 2025
Issued by: Dr Christian McGrath, Chief Health Officer
Issued to: Health professionals and consumers
Key messages
- Poisonous mushrooms including the death cap and yellow-staining mushrooms, appear in Victoria during autumn, as the weather becomes wetter and cooler.
- Consuming even a single death cap mushroom may result in death.
- Cooking, peeling or drying these mushrooms does not remove or inactivate the poison.
- There is no home test available to distinguish safe and edible mushrooms from poisonous mushrooms.
- Mushrooms purchased from a supermarket, greengrocer or other reputable source are safe to eat.
- Remove any mushrooms growing in home gardens as young children and pets can easily eat them.
- If you suspect you or anyone in your care may have eaten a poisonous mushroom, do not wait for symptoms to occur. Call the Victorian Poisons Information Centre immediately on 13 11 26 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Australia wide) for appropriate advice.
Kind regards,
Nurse Belinda
