Principal's Report

Tim Bernau | Principal

Dear Skye Families,

Mother's Day Breakfast

What fantastic celebrations we had last Friday as we paid tribute to our community's amazing mums and special people! It was great to see such a huge turnout with the gym packed to the rafters.

Huge thanks to the PTF Committee who put in countless hours of preparation for the event—the special touches did not go unnoticed. The slideshow featuring photos of children and mums, the amazing prizes on offer, as well as the delicious food and coffee all contributed to a sensational morning.

Thank you to everyone involved and a special shout out to the Skye office team who were firing up the barbecues before the sun came up. We were pleased to shift to a morning timeslot to accommodate the many mums who work full time on top of their other full-time job at home.

If you have any feedback about how we can improve the event for next year, please let me know.

Maths Open Afternoon

Excitement is building for our Maths Open Afternoon taking place on Wednesday, 28th May.

These events provide a great opportunity for our community to gain insight into our teaching and learning approaches while participating in fun activities with your children. The afternoon will highlight the multi-dimensional nature of Mathematics, focusing on the six strands of the Maths Curriculum - Number, Algebra, Space, Statistics, Geometry, and Measurement.

While activities start at 3:30pm, we encourage families to join two of our Teaching and Learning leaders, Mr Snow (Assistant Principal - Teaching and Learning) and Miss Eade (Maths Learning Specialist) for a presentation in the Library from 2:45pm. They will outline specifics of our Maths program and the latest evidence base that underpins it. Jump over to the 'Curriculum' page, where Mr Snow provides more detailed information about the importance of aligning our teaching practices with the evidence on how students learn best.

Walk Safely to School Day

We were thrilled to see so many families join us for this year's Walk Safely to School Day. We marked the occasion on what was a crisp and foggy May morning with colourful balloons and some tasty snacks back at school. nIt was lovely to see everyone come together and embrace the benefits of walking to and from school. We look forward to continuing to promote the health and environmental benefits associated with these activities and encourage more families to participate in the future.

Student Attitudes to School Survey

Over the next two weeks, Kim and I will be administering the annual Student Attitudes to School Survey for all students in Years 4-6.

The survey provides an opportunity for schools to gain insights into student perceptions of their school and learning. It asks students about their thoughts and feelings regarding their school, learning, peer relationships, health and wellbeing, and life in general. This valuable feedback helps us continue improving our programs and support for students.

Have a great fortnight!

Warm regards,

Tim
