Hello Grade Two Families,

We loved seeing so many special friends attend our Mother's Day event. It was lovely to meet those who were able to come along.  The students were buzzing and delighted in sharing their pictures with you.

Upcoming Learning

Literacy

In Phonics we will be reviewing recent learning, including the many ways to make the long vowel sounds (such as 'ay' -> ai/ay/a-e/a/eigh/ey; and 'ee' -> ee/ea/-y/ee/e).

Students are loving our Reading unit on Ancient Greece and are starting to make connections to the current world. They can't believe that boys and girls used to be treated so differently 3000+ years ago. We will be continuing our learning on this working through chapters:

• Which god and which goddess do you think are the most interesting? Why?
• What were the original Olympic Games?
• Who were three of the greatest thinkers of ancient Greece?
• Why was Alexander known as Alexander the Great?

In Writing, we will continue our sentence level focus, ensuring students include adjectives to describe their nouns and conjunctions to expand their sentences. We will be looking at settings and ways we can 'paint a picture' in the reader's mind using interesting words. Depending on how we are tracking, we may start to look at describing characters.

Numeracy

• We are learning to add two-digit numbers using MAB and student knowledge of partitioning, number bonds and place value. 
• Students will also be learning to partition, regroup and rename three-digit numbers before writing them in standard and non-standard from.

Wellbeing

• Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships - positive coping strategies and regulation (taking the Zones of Regulation lense)
• Ready to Learn plans are complete and students are building their capacity to access these when feeling like they are not ready to learn.

Inquiry

Our Term 2 unit, Stimulating Science has begun!! Students have explored how things change and enjoyed creating playdough volcanoes where they explored the chemical reaction that occurs when bicarb soda and vinegar are combined. In the coming weeks we will be having a Grade 2 Science Day- check out the info below!!
