Year 3
Welcome to Term 2!
We’ve had a wonderful start to the term, and Year 3 students have already been busy putting their creative talents to work in preparation for Mother’s Day this Sunday. Using patterns, colours, and lines, they thoughtfully designed beautiful artworks that reflect their appreciation and love for their mums. The classroom was filled with excitement as students worked carefully on their creations, eager to surprise their mothers with something special. We hope all our mums and carers enjoy these heartfelt pieces and have a beautiful day with their families this weekend.
Students have also been building on their writing skills. At the end of last term, they wrote narratives inspired by water, showcasing their imagination and storytelling abilities. These stories have now been transformed into picture books, which students will soon share with our Kindergarten friends in a special reading session. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with younger peers and celebrate their writing in a meaningful way.
We've been diving into the world of numbers by exploring addition and subtraction. Students have been learning to use a range of mental and written strategies to solve problems and find the totals of numbers. From number lines and split strategies to fact families and jump strategies, our mathematicians are developing flexible thinking and confidence in their problem-solving skills. We’ve also been discussing the concept of having a growth mindset in Maths tasks, rather than a fixed one. Sometimes the tasks can be challenging, but that’s a great sign the brain is working its muscles, learning, and developing, rather than staying bored and stuck in one spot. The students have enjoyed this reminder and are eager to tackle the trickier concepts with confidence.
We’ve also kicked off a new Music unit this term! So far, we've started with the basics of following the beat and have been practising with some of the students’ favourite songs. It's always a highlight to see who the movers and groovers are and there’s never a dull moment when music fills the classroom.
It’s shaping up to be a vibrant and creative term full of learning, laughter, and connection.

Year 1 Spotlight
Year 1 has had a terrific start to Term 2!
In English, we have started learning how to write persuasive texts. The students were surprised to enter their classroom one morning last week, to see that their chairs had gone on strike! The chairs had written the students a letter, explaining that they were tired of not being treated correctly. The letter explained to the students that the only way that the students were allowed to use them again, was if they wrote a persuasive letter detailing why they wanted them to return and how they would look after them if they did come back. The students spent the morning working in the auditorium (on the floor), and created some wonderful arguments to persuade their chairs to return. Thankfully they did!
We have also started our new unit of music and are looking forward to exploring the hidden and not so hidden musical talents of Year 1. We were interested in Week 1 to learn what the beat was in music and also how you could find and move to the beat!
In art, we have been creating our precious artwork to celebrate how amazing our mums and the special maternal figures are in our lives. We are looking forward to celebrating all the wonderful things that our incredible mothers have done for us! We hope you have a beautiful day on Sunday!
