Principal's Message

 Dear Parents/Carers,

ANZAC CEREMONIES

ANZAC Day is a significant national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping missions.

It specifically honours those who served in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) during World War I.

ANZAC Day is observed annually on April 25th, the anniversary of the landing of ANZAC troops at Gallipoli in 1915 during World War I.

It is marked by ceremonies such as dawn services, marches, and memorial services, as well as by wearing red poppies, a symbol of remembrance.

ANZAC Day holds great significance in the national consciousness of both Australia and New Zealand, and it is a time for reflection, gratitude, and honouring the sacrifice of those who served their countries.

This week we commemorated ANZAC Day at school with our own ceremony on Thursday.

It was led by our student leaders who practised their roles during the past week.

We are very fortunate to have capable and confident leaders such as Bella, Robert, Natasha and Dayna.

We are also well represented at the mid-morning march and wreath laying ceremony by our student leaders on Friday.

Our students proudly recall the sacrifices that those who served and currently serve have made on our behalf.

Anzac Cove - Poem by Leon Gellert

There’s a lonely stretch of hillocks:

There’s a beach asleep and drear:

There’s a battered broken fort beside the sea.

There are sunken trampled graves:

And a little rotting pier:

And winding paths that wind unceasingly.

There’s a torn and silent valley:

There’s a tiny rivulet

With some blood upon the stones beside its mouth.

There are lines of buried bones:

There’s an unpaid waiting debt :

There’s a sound of gentle sobbing in the South.

FOUNDATION - YEAR 2 CROSS COUNTRY

On Tuesday the Foundation to Year 2 students participated in the annual cross country.

It was a drizzly start to the day but it was so pleasing to see all the students participating and giving it their best.

Thank you to Mrs Owen for once again organising a great event. Congratulations to all the students who placed.

YEARS 3-6 CROSS-COUNTRY

On Thursday students from Years 3-6 enjoyed the warmer weather for the annual Cross-Country event.

It was fantastic to see all the students participating and giving it their best.

Congratulations to all the winners and those who have qualified for Districts on Thursday 8th May. We wish them all the best. Thank you to our parent helpers who assisted on the day and to the Kennedy family for assisting at both events with timing and placements.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS

Well Done to Cherine Owen, Lidia Allen and Julie Versteegh who attended the District Athletics with our wonderful student Athletes.

From all reports Warrnambool Primary School did a great job participating and conducting themselves in an exemplary manner. Our school placed 2nd overall for the day which is an oustanding result.

There are some great pictures on our Facebook page if you would like to take a look.

I would like to congratulate all students who made the team and those who were able to proceed to the next level of championships.

FOUNDATION INFORMATION NIGHT/ WHOLE SCHOOL OPEN NIGHT

Wednesday 14th May 2025 at 5pm

We would love to see as many prospective parents as possible at our Foundation Information Night on Wednesday 14 May 2025 at 5pm at school.

If you already have children at the school or if you know someone who has a child about to commence Foundation in 2026 please come along and encourage them to also.

We will share information about the first year of school, a day in the life of a Foundation child at Warrnambool Primary School and outline the great programs we offer.

We are also holding our whole School Open Night on the same evening. The students love seeing their parents at school so it would be great to see many parents, grandparents and friends as possible.
