Grade 2 Report

As Easter and ANZAC Day have now passed, we are excited to get back into the rhythm of Grade 2!
This term, our History unit focuses on exploring the Past and Present, and we’re kicking things off by delving into the rich history of our very own school.
Preston Primary School, established in 1875, has a legacy that spans nearly a century and a half, and we are thrilled to celebrate its 150th anniversary this September! Our journey through time took us on a tour of the original building, where we uncovered several fascinating artefacts.
One notable feature is a commemorative board in the stairwell, engraved with the names of former students who attended Preston Primary School before enlisting in World War 1. In the office foyer, we found the original school bell alongside two historic photos that capture the first students and teachers of Preston Primary School, which was originally known as Tyler Street State School.
Upstairs, near the staff room, students discovered an original student desk—an item that sparked much excitement, with everyone wishing it could be brought into our classrooms! Throughout the building, we also uncovered several vintage class photos, and near the front entrance, we were reminded of the generations that have passed through these doors, with bricks engraved with the names of past students and their families.
Looking ahead, our students are eager to continue investigating the history of technology, transport, and, of course, our own family histories.
