Year -1/2 Unit

It’s hard to believe that we are near the end of Week 3. Term 2 is a wonderful term of learning. Students are used to the routines and expectations of school and its fabulous to see the students enter the classroom ready to go!
We have been busy looking at many types of information texts and looking at the differences between Fiction and Non- Fiction texts in Reading and Writing. Students began to share their Show and Tell topics on their Favourite animals. We have already learnt some great facts abouts Goats, Sea Turtles, Wild Dogs and Cows!
We have been exploring different types of questions we can ask before, during and after reading. These questions help us to understand the text we are reading. Some prompts we use are:
I wonder what the book is about?
What do I already know about the topic?
How come….?
Why is the character….?
What does that word mean?
How were my questions answered? Can I answer them using clues from the text?
We are beginning to look at Addition during Maths and have been practising our doubles and near doubles over the past week. We have playing lots of games to cement these facts – even creating our own games with a friend.
We would also like to take the opportunity to wish all the Mums a very happy day on Sunday – hopefully with a sleep in, breakfast in bed or just some ‘Mum’ time!
