Year 3 - Middle Unit

It has been a busy fortnight in Year 3, with the students taking part in many different classroom and extra-curricular activities. On Tuesday, a number of Year 3 students competed at the Cobaw District Cross Country, with quite a few of the students finishing well inside the top 10. Please see the Cross Country report for photos from the day. On Wednesday, Marie from Kyneton Aquatic visited WPS to discuss the upcoming Aqua Aware program. The students discussed the many different waterways we have in the Macedon Ranges, and the ways in which they can stay safe around them. The students have been asked to wear their bathers to school each day next week, so they can quickly get changed before their lessons.

Camp

A ‘What to pack for camp’ message went out via Compass this week. If you would like a paper copy, please let Mr. Spilsted know at nathan.spilsted@education.vic.gov.au

On Monday the 19th of May, students will depart WPS at 9:15am. As we have a bit to do in the morning (collect medications, mark the roll etc.) we ask that students arrive at school no later than 8:45am. Students will return on Wednesday the 21st of May at approximately 2:45pm. If you have any further questions regarding camp, please see your child’s classroom teacher.

Literacy Learning

In both Reading and Writing, students have been focusing on information reports. They have been learning about their features such as labelled diagrams, maps and timelines, as well as discussing the importance of these features to educate the reader. The students have now selected a famous scientist to complete a biography about. These biographies will be completed at school, as an informative poster. We will be inviting parents/carers into classrooms to view the projects later in the term. In the meantime, discussing your child’s scientist would make for great dinner table conversation and help embed the research they are currently doing.
