Next Wednesday 14th May we will also be hosting a Foundation 2026 Information night from 6.30pm, if you or someone else you know would like to attend please register at https://forms.gle/Up5ZmAXgFuxRQALz8.

Aqua Aware Sessions – Year 4

There will be many tired Year 4 students tomorrow night as they wrap up their week of swimming lessons at the Kyneton Aquatic Centre. Thank you to our Year 4 teachers and the parent helpers who have helped the students each day, these events would not be possible without our supportive school community. The swimming lessons are a part of our Health and PE curriculum and are supported via government funding to ensure that students reach a proficient swimming level by the end of their time in primary school. Next week our Year 3 students commence their lessons. Thanks to Sue Turner for her work in organising this experience for our students.

CDSSA Cross Country

Congratulations to the 54 Year 3-6 students who proudly represented our school at the CDSSA Cross Country Championships on Tuesday at Hanging Rock. It was lovely to hear about the effort, support and kindness these students provided to each other throughout the day. We have 9 students who will now progress through to the Goldfields Division Cross Country next Friday. Congratulations to Zoe, Edward, Anouk, Dom, Daisy, Madeleine, Archie, Heidi and Arlo. Event Information has been sent out to these families via Compass.

Branch Out/Tuning in to Kids

On Monday night we will again be hosting a parent evening as part of our Branch Out Mental Health pilot program with the Macedon Ranges Shire Council. We are excited to welcome back clinical psychologist Professor Sophie Havighurst who will continue to provide families with support and advice about emotion coaching with your children via the Tuning in to Kids/Teens program. This program is not a repeat of previous sessions, each time Sophie presents new information.  As the parent of three children and having heard Sophie speak over the last few years, I can highly recommend attendance on the night. If you would like to attend please book at https://www.trybooking.com/DBEKI

The event runs from 6.30pm-8pm, with child care on offer and a light supper provided.

Carlsruhe Changeover

Next week our Year 4 classes will undertake the first Carlsruhe change over, where 4SM will be moving to Carlsruhe and 4LS will be returning to the Woodend campus. The official swap will occur on Thursday the 15th May. We look forward to welcome back 4LS students and hope that the 4SM students enjoy their time out at Carlsruhe.

PFA Fundraising – Cake Stall and BBQ – Election Day

Thanks to our amazing PFA and additional volunteers who ran a successful BBQ and Cake Stall on Election Day. This would not have been possible without the generous contribution of all the volunteers who gave up their time and also all the families who cooked and provided delicious treats for our cake stall. All funds raised will go back into our school and support future project and initiatives to improve our school and learning environment.

Child Safety and Photographing/Recording Students

At the end of last year we sent out an updated policy to all families regarding photographing, recording/filming students. Part of this policy discusses parents photographing and recording their child at school events:

“Woodend Primary School permits parents/carers, students and invited guests to photograph, film or record school performances, sporting events and other school-approved activities. Woodend Primary School requests that parents/carers, students and invited guests who photograph, film or record school activities only do so for their own personal use and do not publish the images in any form, including on social media, without the prior consent of persons whose children also appear in the images. Neither the school nor the department own or control any images of students taken by parents/carers, students or their invited guests at school activities.”

We understand that families want to capture their children in these moments of joy and celebration but ask you to be mindful that some families and children do not want their image to be shared.

Student Dress Code Policy

The Woodend Primary Student Dress Code Policy was updated at the end of 2024, in consultation with School Council. As the colder weather sets in please take the time to discuss the policy with your child. Teachers will also be providing reminders to students of expectations.

Congratulations Miss Quinn

In exciting news Miss Quinn’s beautiful baby girl Margot arrived safely on Tuesday afternoon, we wish them all the best and look forward to meeting her soon. I know Miss Quinn will be excited to introduce Margot to the Woodend Primary School community.

Mother’s Day Morning Tea

I am looking forward to catching up with the mothers and grandmothers of Woodend Primary School tomorrow morning at our PFA hosted Mother’s Day Morning Tea. The event starts at 7.45am in our School Hall, breakfast is on offer and Raf’s Coffee Van will be set up near the school office.

As another busy term begins please take the time to review the other sections of our newsletter to see what else is happening around our school at the moment and catch up on the learning in the classrooms.
