THE VILLAGE

The Village: Supporting Student Wellbeing Together
At Korumburra Secondary College, we believe in the value of community and its power in supporting the health and wellbeing of our young people. The Village is here to support us with this goal. This section provides evidence-based resources that align with our school’s wellbeing strategy, offering practical tools for students, families, and staff. From mental health support to fostering resilience and positive relationships, The Village is designed to empower our community with knowledge and strategies to help best support our young people.
Recently as a staff we have been looking at implementing our School Wide Positive Behaviours Framework. As a part of this work, we are looking into aligning our school values with behaviours. Staff have been looking at how to amplify positive behaviours and are doing so with the help of evidence-based practice. The below podcast from Pop Culture Parenting outlines a lot of the evidence base that we use to support young people in behavioural change.
Changing Behaviour: Pop Culture Parenting
This edition of The Village draws inspiration from the latest episode of the Pop Culture Parenting podcast, which explores how we can support children and teens in changing behaviour through connection, boundaries, and a better understanding of brain development. The episode blends evidence-based strategies with real-world parenting and school scenarios, making it a great resource for both families and educators.
The podcast highlights how behaviour change is less about control and more about guidance—creating environments where students feel safe, understood, and supported to learn from their mistakes. If we want young people to do better, we need to show them how, model it ourselves, and provide opportunities to practice positive choices.

In our next edition we will look at a few examples of where our students demonstrate positive behaviours. We have lots of examples and can’t wait to show you some of the great things our students have been up to. We hope you enjoy this weeks resource.
