Year 5/6 Report

Term 2 2025

We are very excited to be welcoming all our Grade 5/6s back in Term 2, and what an exciting term we have planned!

Colour Run Term 1

Thankyou to all families who supported their children for our school colour during Term 1. All students who participated had an absolute ball on the day.

Anzac Day April 25th

All classrooms participated in an ANZAC day activity during week 1 this term. We took the time to remember people past and present who have served.

Literacy

In Reading, students will go on to explore a range of skills such as visualising, text connections, synthesising, inferring, analysing and critiquing. Students will read a variety of non-fiction and fiction texts daily and increase their stamina and word knowledge.

In Writing, students will explore the elements of fictional texts. They will be immersed in mystery stories and learn to identify the various features which enhance their texts such as descriptive language and foreshadowing. These mystery stories will include a crime, clues, alibis and character motives. Students will work on building suspense and tension throughout their mystery stories.

Numeracy

In Numeracy the students will further develop their fraction and decimal knowledge. This unit will be explored through the link of money, length and time. Students will be working on recognising what fractional parts make one whole, fractions of a collection, placing fractions on a number line, identifying equivalent fraction families, simplifying fractions by dividing and adding and subtracting like and unlike fractions. Throughout the unit students will use hands on materials, challenging problems and online activities to help students understand, engage and explore each concept.

Inquiry

During Inquiry in Semester 1, students are continuing to explore the difference between needs and wants while identifying influences on consumer choices. They have begun working hard in groups to consider strategies that can be used to help make informed personal consumer and financial choices. Students will have begun to use their understanding and persuasive techniques from Term 1 to plan a market stall towards the end of this term!
