Secondary Swimming Carnival

The Annual Secondary Swimming Carnival was a fantastic day filled with fun, friendly competition, and plenty of school spirit! Students gave their all in the pool, with many personal bests achieved and several records broken throughout the day. The cheering

from the sidelines was loud and proud, as houses rallied behind their teammates in every race.

Out of the water, the sausage sizzle was a big hit, keeping everyone fuelled and adding to the carnival atmosphere. It was wonderful to see students, staff and families coming

together to support one another and celebrate the day.

Congratulations to Meninya, who were crowned Overall Champions for 2026! A huge well done to all swimmers for their enthusiasm, sportsmanship and team spirit – it truly was a day to remember.

The highlight of the carnival was the much-anticipated Staff vs House Relay. In a thrilling and entertaining race, the teachers brought their A-game and managed to outswim the primary students, claiming bragging rights for the year! It was a fantastic moment that had everyone laughing and cheering.

Stroke by Stroke: MAG Rowers Deliver Their Best at Nagambie Lakes

In near-perfect conditions — bright sunshine and only a light breeze — our Moama Anglican Grammar girls’ crew competed at the picturesque Nagambie Lakes Regatta Centre for their second-ever sprint regatta.

Led by Captain of Boats, Ava Whitbourn, the crew lined up in the C-Grade heats for their first race of the day. Despite a determined effort, they narrowly missed progressing through to the final. Rather than dwell on the result, the girls demonstrated resilience and initiative, taking advantage of the lunch break to complete an additional training paddle on the full race course in preparation for their afternoon event — the Female Beginner Coxed Quad.

The extra work paid off. In a much-improved performance, the crew delivered a personal best row, making a strong start and overtaking Essendon Rowing Club early in the race. They held their own against tough competition, ultimately finishing behind Barwon Rowing Club in a spirited contest.

While we didn’t bring home the win on this occasion, Moama Anglican Grammar certainly made an impression. The crew received generous praise from race commentators, officials, and coaches from other clubs throughout the day. One commentator summed it up perfectly: “Moama Anglican Grammar. The more you say it, the better it sounds!”

The girls returned home proud, tired, and just a little sunburnt — but full of confidence and excitement for what lies ahead this season. Well done to all involved for representing the school with determination, sportsmanship, and pride.

I would also like to sincerely thank the parents who attended the regatta to support their daughters and who continue to back our rowing program so generously. Your time, encouragement and commitment make opportunities like this possible for our students, and we are truly grateful for your ongoing support.

Kind regards,

Wynstan Gilbert

The team trained from late October through to the end of December, with the girls travelling to Mulwala often twice a week for regular practice.

Throughout January, the ski team performed a number of shows to large crowds at the Mulwala Waterski Club. The girls are now training hard to represent NSW at the Australian Ski Show Nationals from March 20–22.

MAG students Taj Barnett (Year 9) and Chase Larkin (Year 10) also competed in the wakeboard competition in Deniliquin over the weekend and performed exceptionally well.
