Primary School

It was wonderful to welcome so many families to our Parent Information Night on Tuesday evening, as well as to our inaugural Kindergarten Parent Social Evening on Thursday. These gatherings are such valuable opportunities to connect with key staff and build relationships within our school community. I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our Primary Staff for their dedication in preparing for these events.

Our Co-Curricular programs are about to begin, and we are delighted to share the exciting Term 1 opportunities available for our students. If parents have any questions about the programs on offer, we encourage them to reach out to the relevant staff member for further information.

Our Academic Co‑Curricular programs in both English and Mathematics will continue to be offered this year. Alongside the many extension programs and enrichment opportunities available for selected students, our comprehensive Literacy Intervention programs for Kindergarten to Year 6 will also remain in place to support identified learners. Parents of students selected to participate in these programs will receive a personalised invitation.

Year 6 Leadership Flag Induction

On Thursday, 5 February, the new Year 6 leadership group completed their flag induction. They learnt about flag protocols, symbolism and how to correctly use the flag poles to raise the flags. The Year 6 leadership group is responsible for raising and lowering the flags each day.

Year 6 Leadership Excursion to Gunbower Estate

On 9 February, all of the Year 6 students travelled to Gunbower for a leadership day. Our focus was to learn how to be a leader in our community and what qualities we need to have to be successful.

The day was full of activities where we worked in our classes. The first activity was the ‘Egg Drop’. We had to look around the farm in groups of three and collect natural materials to protect the egg. Some of the things we used were dead grass, string, matting and wood. We dropped the egg from a certain height and hoped it did not crack. This activity helped us develop teamwork, collaboration and problem-solving skills.

The next activity was a roleplay about situations that might happen in the yard or in the classroom. There were scenarios about bullying, disagreements in the yard, new classmates and many more. We split up into groups, and each group had a different topic to act out. After we finished practising, we presented it to our class. I think we did a brilliant job.

Our last activity was another one that required teamwork. It was called the ’Blind Walk’. We had to guide our friends along a path using clear and helpful directions. It was hard, but very fun. The other part of this activity was a scavenger hunt. We had clues about where to go and, when we got there, we had to answer leadership questions.

Throughout the day, we learnt leadership qualities that we will use as leaders in the Primary School. Teamwork, problem-solving and helping each other were just a few of the qualities we learnt. Thank you to all the teachers, staff and workers at the estate who helped make this day possible.

Spotlight on Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

The Year 3 students have had a delightful start to the term with a blend of creativity, nature, and hands‑on learning. Over the holidays, our SAKG garden flourished with vibrant flowers designed to attract bees, creating a wonderful learning space for the students. During the first SAKG lesson, students enjoyed making flower bracelets and garlands, as well as pressing blooms to use in their artwork. They also harvested produce from the garden to make fresh, cold lemonade, a refreshing treat that was especially appreciated on our 40 degree days.

Ash Wednesday service

This week, our Primary students gathered for their Ash Wednesday service. When we come together as a community, it provides an opportunity to highlight and reflect on what is important to us as a school. During the service, our core value of respect was clearly on display. Firstly, our upper primary students modelled for our newest community members how to come forward appropriately, setting a wonderful example of reverence. Secondly, while we invite students to receive the sign of the cross, we also give them the choice not to receive it. My favourite moment was when a Kindergarten student chose not to receive the sign of the cross but asked to shake Reverend Tim Bowles’ hand instead. As always, the students’ singing was enthusiastic. This service serves as a beautiful reminder that life is precious and that we should make each day count by loving God and loving others.

Primary Assembly

On Friday, 13 February, our Primary School community came together for the first Primary Assembly of the year. It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect after the holidays and celebrate the beginning of a new school year. We warmly welcomed our Kinders as they joined us for their very first assembly, along with all new students, staff, and families who are beginning their Moama Anglican Grammar journey.

The Assembly was filled with a sense of excitement and positivity, highlighted by the enjoyable showcase of staff holiday adventures. We were treated to beautiful piano performances by Harry Nichol and another year 5 student, whose musical talents brought a wonderful sense of calm and artistry to the assembly.

We celebrated Eva Michael, Bella Michael and Mitchel Colliver, who successfully completed their St Cecilia School of Music piano exam over video in December last Year. Ms O’Neill shared an incredible excursion opportunity connected to the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Australian Grand Prix 2026. Students learned about the Driving Learning Program, which offers students a unique chance to step inside the world of high‑performance motorsport and cutting‑edge STEM innovation. The Driving Learning Program is designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a deeper understanding of how STEM shapes the world around us.

Students and staff will continue to engage in Stage Assemblies as they provide opportunities for students to: build connections as a stage, celebrate individual student achievements, share work with peers, have fun and increase leadership capacity and opportunities.

Early Stage 1 Assembly

The Kindergarten students have made a wonderful start to their first few weeks of school. They are settling confidently into new routines, building friendships, and embracing the excitement of learning each day. The students recently attended their first Stage Assembly for the year, where several students received a Kindergarten Superstar Award. Congratulations to these students for showing kindness, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude towards their learning.

To capture the magic of these early weeks, students were invited to share their thoughts about starting school. Here are some of their reflections:

Ziggy: “I really enjoy playing on the playground and making lots of friends!”

Odin: “I have loved making new friends!”

Ashlee: “I love playing outside.”

Sadie: “I love learning with Mrs Wilson.”

We are so proud of how confidently and enthusiastically our youngest learners have begun their schooling journey, and we look forward to many more wonderful weeks ahead!

Stage 2 Assembly

Students in Stage 2 attended their first assembly for 2026, celebrating the exciting start to a new school year. Students have settled into their new classes, formed new friendships, and are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning.

Students enjoyed learning some fun and interesting facts about our Stage 2 teachers: including overseas adventures, unique birthdays, farming experiences, hidden mysteries, sporting talents, creative hobbies and special achievements.

Year 3 students then proudly showcased their learning:

  • 3A shared their science knowledge about the three states of matter, solids, liquids and gases, explaining their properties and giving real life examples.
  • 3B explained what suffixes are and taught the audience when and why we sometimes need to double the consonant before adding a suffix.
  • 3C shared examples of engaging and interesting books to read, encouraging everyone to explore new texts and develop a love of reading.

It was a fantastic way to begin the year, highlighting the confidence, knowledge and enthusiasm of our Stage 2 students. We look forward to many more celebrations of learning throughout 2026!

Volunteer Inductions

At Moama Anglican Grammar, registered volunteers have many opportunities to be involved in their child/ren’s learning, including morning reading, cooking classes, working in the uniform shop, joining the Parent and Friends Association, assisting with sporting events, Co-Curricular activities, exam supervision, excursions and incursions.

For more information about how to become a Registered Volunteer at our school, please refer to the School Notices page of this newsletter.

Message from the Office

During pick‑up times, we kindly ask parents to use the designated car parks around the school to ensure everyone can access the campus safely. We continue to receive reports of parents parking across the road on Kirchhofer Street and walking between buses, which significantly reduces visibility and increases the risk when crossing back to vehicles. We sincerely appreciate your support in helping keep our students and community safe.

The Primary School Term 1 Parent/Teacher Interviews will be conducted in Week 6 on Tuesday, 3 March, from 3:30 - 7:30pm and Thursday, 5 March, from 3:30 - 5:30pm. The Booking Portal will close at midnight on Sunday, 1 March. If you require any changes after this cut-off time, please contact your child’s classroom teacher directly or if it involves a change with a specialist teacher, the Primary Office on Phone 03 5480 5950 or psreception@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au.

I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to all our families for their continuous support of Moama Anglican Grammar. The surveys conducted by the school highlight the impact positive feedback from our current families has on the enrolment decisions of new families.

We are experiencing unprecedented interest in our school, which is reflected in the number of enrolment applications we have received for 2027 and beyond. We strongly encourage families who are considering enrolment at Moama Anglican Grammar, who have not yet applied, to promptly apply online. Particular urgency exists for entry into our Kindergarten classes in 2027.
