Classroom Learning with 5/6O

The team in 5/6O have settled in beautifully, bringing curiosity, kindness, and a wonderful sense of excitement to the start of Term 1. Go team 5/6O! In numeracy, we are consolidating our knowledge of place value and operations. In literacy, we have begun a deep dive into our first book of the year – The Grandest Bookshop in the World – written by Victorian teacher Amelior Mellor! Through our Inquiry focus this term we are refining strategies on how to keep ourselves and others safe online. Our Respectful Relationships learning is consolidating our understanding of emotions: ours, others, how to read feelings and strategies to respond. This week we are very excited to head to Quantum at La Trobe University and create some 3D objects and environments with the Quantum STEM team using Tinkercad. Lots of learning is happening!

We’ve welcomed five very charming pet stick insects into our room, and we are taking great pride in caring for them and learning about their quirky antics. Our first big STEM challenge — designing a pirate ship strong enough to hold treasure (Ahoy ye scallywags!) — was a huge hit, with teams showing impressive creativity, pioneering thinking, and plenty of laughter along the way. Our 6’s are working hard to ensure the newest members of RPS – the preppies! - are enjoying a smooth transition into ‘big school’ life. Keep up the great work 5/6O!
