A note from Mr Jackson

Excursion to Quantum

18 & 19 February

On Wednesday and Thursday this week, students in the 456 Learning Area have visited the Centre for STEM Education Centre of Excellence located at LaTrobe College. There were lots of designing and 3D printing as students bent their heads around CAD programming! Students proved again that this experience will be a highlight  of learning!

FORPS AGM

Wednesday 25 February

FORPS provide an avenue for parents to be involved in supporting the school. Come along to learn what is planned for the upcoming year, all are welcome. Keep attuned to Compass for the date and time.

Lateness Reminder

A positive start to the day helps students springboard into a productive and engaged school day. I encourage all parents to ensure their children arrive just prior to the 9:00am start. Those first few moments allow students to catch up with friends, collect notes, and receive important organisational information and expectations for the day. Morning wellbeing check-ins and classroom routines provide reassurance and set students up for success.

When students arrive late, they miss this important opportunity to orient themselves to the day, which can affect their engagement for the rest of the day. If a student is only a minute or two late, they should go directly to class and let the teacher know of their late arrival. For lateness extending over 10 minutes, students should come directly to the office to receive a late note.

FORPS BBQ

Friday 27 February

We’re pleased to invite all families to the FORPS Family Welcome Back Picnic next Friday evening. The event is a relaxed opportunity to renew acquaintances, develop friendships, and enjoy the playground and a cool late afternoon atmosphere. There will be no structured activities, just a chance for families to connect and for children to play.

Please consider helping with the BBQ, every hand makes a difference. Volunteer support helps keep the cost of the event down and contributes to a welcoming community atmosphere. Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support of our school community.

Riding to School Safely

A near miss occurred earlier this week, with a student cyclist riding across a nearby road. I encourage parents to continue to have conversations about road safety with students and remind them of dismounting when crossing roads.  Further educational opportunities will continue with Ride to School Day in the near future.

Friday Night Working Bee

Friday 13 March at 3:45pm

Parents are invited to stay back a little longer to join the termly Working Bee. We are hoping that a diverse range of workers’, pruners, gardeners, blowers and general helper outer’ers might be able to join in for a couple of hours.

All participants are required to sign in at the table outside the staffroom. They should be wearing appropriate shoes and are encouraged to wear gloves (collection available for those who forget). Some of the tasks planned include:

  • Replacing some rotten timbers in the northern garden area along the fenceline
  • Painting hazard and edge steps on stairs where required
  • Pruning branches at eye height
  • Planting a range of vegetation at the top playground

Students must be supervised by parents as school will have officially concluded for the day. All will enjoy the glories of a simple sausage and a cold drink at our 6:00pm pack up time.
