Year 6

In English, learners will deepen principles taught in classroom English and Inquiry lessons; putting their understanding of Digital influences, Media Arts and Ethics into practice. They will publish a ‘Choose your own Adventure’ story, in which the outcomes of the narrative will be influenced by the reader’s choices.

In Mathematics, learners will apply their knowledge in practical and investigative situations. They will collaborate to explore the Fibonacci sequence and the many representations of it. Additionally, they will practice techniques to solve complex worded problems.

In STEAM, learners will explore all elements of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths before embarking on a practical challenge related to all disciplines – creating a building capable of surviving three simulated natural disasters.

In Virtual Design, learners will learn about the core elements of sketching and the principles of design, before immersing themselves in the street and cultural scenes of London, Berlin and Paris – ultimately designing a product line based around one or more of these iconic European cities.

In Rocketry, a new Innovation subject being implemented this year, learners will cover the principles of rocketry and flight. As students learn to build and launch their own rocket designs, they will have a basic understanding of Measurement, Speed, Velocity, and Acceleration.  Students will explore rocket engine types while also being introduced to the theories behind rocketry.

In Robotics, learners will use the Lego Spike Prime robotic kits to create a variety of different builds that will introduce them to block-based coding. They will become familiar with a range of sensors, motors and a ‘hub’ that will run their coding commands to make their robotic design move, make sounds, follow commands and demonstrate their coding abilities. Working in partnerships, this is a subject that will build on collaboration and a shared vision for the students, with the final product created being a design they can build using all their coding knowledge learnt during the semester.

The Netball Sports Innovation learners will take part in a variety of engaging drills, challenges, and game-based activities to strengthen their passing, catching, footwork, shooting, and defensive techniques. They will also begin to explore tactical elements such as moving into space, creating opportunities, and reading the play. The program will emphasise teamwork and fair play, with students encouraged to communicate positively, support their teammates, and show respect for everyone involved.

In the Language Innovation class learners will build on their knowledge of Chinese New Year by exploring its historical and cultural significance. Through focused lessons on festive vocabulary, idioms, and phrases, as well as traditional stories like the legend of Nian, students will deepen their understanding of this important celebration. They will also participate in creative projects, including crafting festive decorations, providing a dynamic learning experience that combines cultural appreciation with practical language skills.
