Foundation - Grade 2 Literacy:
We have been very busy over the last month in the junior room. In InitaLit F we have been introduced to two new friends who will help us learn our sounds: Maggie Mouse /m/ and Sammy Seal /s/. These two sounds are our stepping stones in learning to read and write! It has been fun looking for these two letters all around us at school!
In InitaLit 1, we have been reviewing our sounds from Foundation. This week, we have been learning about the digraph 'o''o' for moon and book. Students have been practising these sounds and being able to tell the difference between the two sounds. We have definitely been working hard trying to identify which sound we need to use when we read words that include it.

Enjoy!
Writing in Year 3
Students have been inspired by the writing of Roald Dahl in our class novel "Matilda", to create their own narratives full of creative characters, dialogue and descriptive language. Check out the impressive 'onomatopoeia' words we have used to start our stories!
Harvest Time in Our School Orchard!
This week, the Foundation - Grade 2 students enjoyed an exciting fruit-picking experience in our beautiful school orchard. Students explored the orchard at the front of our school and carefully observed whether the apples, pears and grapes were ready to be harvested. With great enthusiasm, they worked together to pick a crate full of apples and pears, along with a container full of delicious grapes. It was wonderful to see the students so engaged and excited about harvesting fruit straight from the trees and vines!
We are incredibly fortunate to have such a lush orchard on our school grounds. It provides students with a hands-on opportunity to learn where food comes from while also encouraging healthy eating habits. The freshly picked fruit has already been enjoyed during fruit break and other break times, giving students the chance to taste and enjoy produce grown right here at school.
Fresh fruit is packed with important vitamins and minerals that support children's growth, health and wellbeing. It also provides natural energy that helps fuel the brain, supporting concentration, focus and learning throughout the school day. Experiences like this help students build a positive relationship with healthy foods and encourage lifelong healthy habits.
What a wonderful time of year to be outdoors, enjoying nature and making the most of the fantastic learning opportunities right here on our school grounds!
