2025 Swimming Carnival
Next year on Friday January 31st (Week 1), Mr Hambrook runs at the beginning of the year a Swimming Carnival at Geelong College Pool for Grade 3-6 students. This is to see which students are successful in attending the next Division level for swimming in Geelong and will represent ‘Mano’. Mr Hambrook has been asking students of interest who would like to be involved as this event is only for students who wish to participate and are competent and confident in swimming. There has been a wonderful amount of students from Grade 2, 3 and 4 who are keen and interested, but I am reminding them that this is a competitive sporting event and expectations are high.
Students will compete in their appropriate age group. Students must be able to swim and race 25 metres up and 25 metres back without stopping (50m) in either freestyle, backstroke, breast-stroke or butterfly. If you feel that your child cannot complete this distance please let Mr Hambrook know by the end of week 8 or 9. I will be sending out Compass notes for student permission in week 8 this term!
If any parents are able to help on the morning being a marshall or time-keeper please let Jessica or Georgia in the office know or come and speak to Mr Hambrook.
Junior Cross Country & Athletics
When: Monday 18th November
Who: Prep, Grade 1 & 2 students
Time: 9:30am - 11am (weather dependent)
Where: Peter Lowe Oval, 80 Minerva Rd, Manifold Heights
What to Bring: Students are to wear their House Colour top/t-shirt, comfy running shorts, hat, drink bottle and apply sunscreen accordingly either prior to event and during.
Students from Prep - Grade 2 have been training super hard this term in many events to get ready for the Junior Sports Day. They have been practising modified athletic events whilst also training for a modified Cross Country. Below are the laps of the oval the students will be running in.
Preps and Grade 1 students: 2 Laps of Peter Lowe Oval (approx. 800M)
Grade 2 students: 3 laps of Peter Lowe Oval (approx. 1.2km)
Many of the events which are taught explicitly in Prep - Grade 2 focus on the technique and actions for when they arrive in the Grade 3 level. The events include hurdles, 50m sprint, long jump, egg and spoon race, discus, shot-put, sack race, corn hole and parachute games. The students will most importantly have fun, learn about sportsmanship, teamwork and how trying their best in all events is self- rewarding, whilst also showing a competitive edge towards improving on their efforts from year to year. Our Prep - Grade 2 Cross Country is to give the students the opportunity to experience actions that promote fitness, physical activity and identify changes in our body over time. Lastly, a yummy and healthy breakfast is really important to have before the event as students will only be taking up water with them and they will need fuel in their bellies 😊
Parents are absolutely welcome to come and watch and cheer from the outside of the oval. As this is an organised event through the Geelong Council, only supervising staff and students can be on the oval. But we would love to see you all come and cheer on the kids with a coffee in hand if you wish.
We hope to see you around 9:30am!
