Music Update

Interesting music fact:  'Music learning hones our auditory processing system. This helps us separate sounds out from noise and detect tiny differences in language sounds' (Coffey et al 2017)

YEAR 11 SOIREE

On the 31st of October, the Year 11 VCE Music Class completed their Unit 2 AOS 1 Solo Soiree Performance SAC. This SAC asked students to perform two pieces of their own choosing while focusing on the elements of the rubric that needed to be filled. We experienced outstanding performances from Jayden Robinson, Liam Martin, Murphy Schmidt, Emma Morton, Lily Buckley, Erin Miles, Anghus Kelly, Teira Smith and Charli Prentice. The Soiree performance was an amazing experience for all of us because it helped us get out of our comfort zone by performing under pressure and while being recorded. It also helped us get an insite into what our Year 12 Soiree will be like next year and the expectations for our future performances. Overall, it was such an incredible day and I would highly recommend any students who want to pursue Music in the future or in high school to join the Year 11 VCE Music class!

MUSIC FESTIVAL

The third annual EMC Music Festival was a fantastic celebration of a great year of music making at EMC. The sun shone, the coffee was hot, the bake sale was sweet and the music was cooking!

All of the EMC music students performed at this event across two stages, with the night culminating with a massed performance by all 120 students of 'High Hopes' by Panic at the Disco. Throughout the rehearsals and the festival it was fantastic to see so many students step-up to help organise parts of it, MC stages, work backstage, plot and run the sound and lighting as well as actually playing.

A huge thank you to all students and families who donated baked goods to the bake sale. All monies raised will go towards purchasing new instruments and equipment for the music department.

Congratulations to all students who performed and also a big thank you to the instrumental music teachers who have worked closely with the students to develop their musicianship skills; Dom Parsons, Simon Chiodo, Leon Stenning, Ian Hodgson, Sandra DeReland and Catherine Simmonds
