Assistant Principals' Report
Dear HPS Community,
It has been a shorter week at HPS after a student free day and the Cup Day holiday. I hope our families had time to relax and recharge for the second part of the term and a busy end of year. Despite the shorter week we have packed lots of great learning and special activities into three days. The Year 2 Little Explorer’s Day took place on Thursday with a fun day of onsite team building activities and then an offsite walk and picnic at Possum Hollow. Thank you to the Year 2 team for all their organisation of this activity. On Friday many of our Year 3-6 students were involved in a mathematics challenge program with more information detailed below. Also on Friday Mr Griffiths took our Year 3 & 4 Hoop time team to the Regional playoffs where the students performed well, representing our school with pride.
Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES)
This series provides funded extension activities for high-ability students in Victorian government schools from Prep to Year 12. Within the series, education expert partners are delivering a suite of face-to-face and virtual incursions and excursions, such as workshops, tutorials, conferences, lectures and competitions, across all areas of the curriculum that are free of charge. Many of our students who are performing or capable of performing a year or more ahead of the expected level of the curriculum have already been involved in some of these workshops.
Remembrance Day
On Monday 11th November it is Remembrance Day. We will be holding a special assembly at the Tiger Turf on Monday, families are invited to attend this assembly led by our school leaders. Remembrance Day is held on 11 November each year. This is the anniversary of the Armistice of 1918 that ended fighting in World War I. The war didn't officially end until 28 June 1919 with the Treaty of Versailles. This year is also 90th anniversary of the opening of Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance.
For more information go to: https://www.shrine.org.au/remembrance-day-2024 .
Our Year 3 classes completed a reading task mapping their ideas about what Remembrance Day means to them. Some beautiful reflections.
Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead!
