Medieval Day

Term 4 Week 6, 2024

Last Friday, Year 8 students stepped back in time for Medieval Day, presenting their creative group assignments as part of their studies in Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE). Adopting the personas of noble families, they offered gifts of writing, castle designs, heraldry, codes of chivalry, and tales of heroic deeds to the Lords of the Province.

Drawing on everything they had learned in class, students crafted storylines based on assumed family identities, designed castles and coats of arms, developed chivalric codes, and composed persuasive letters to their Lords.

The day was a celebration of medieval life, filled with activities and camaraderie. Students competed in games of Kubb to "capture the castle," participated in court trials to determine guilt or innocence, and enjoyed a feast of broth, chicken, bread, and cheese, served at long tables in the "Great Hall" (the COLA at the College Oval). The day concluded with an exciting scavenger hunt.

The competitive spirit and enthusiasm of the students made the day a resounding success, bringing history to life in a fun and engaging way.
