On Tuesday our gorgeous preps and their parents participated in their "Prayers in Pyjamas" Faith Development morning. It was so nice to see so many parents start the day off with a friendly cuppa in the church foyer before joining their children for mass.
At Mass, Father Huy shared the gospel story of Zacchaeus and brought home the message that God loves us no matter what and He always wants to be our friend.
This was a perfect segue for our exploration of what prayer is. Children explained that prayer was just talking to God and being His friend. We also looked at the many different ways we can pray.
In class, students made a prayer mat with different prayers, a prayer cube with all the different reasons they could pray for, a cross and a candle to take home and use on their prayer space.
The students seemed to really enjoy the morning, especially coming to school in their pj's and hopefully deepened their understanding that Jesus is their friend, who loves them no matter what and who would love to have a relationship with them through prayer.
On another note, this weekend sees the implementation of "16 Days of Prayer against Gender Based Violence" an initiative led by UN Women. It runs every year from 25th November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to the 10th November (Human Rights Day). Attached are the prayers adapted from the Anglican diocese of Melbourne.
