YEAR 10-12 NEWS

Term 3

Year 10

Environmental Studies Coastal Excursion

On the 30th of August 2023, the two Environmental Studies classes went to Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff for a beach and coastal walk with Mr Conron and Mr Beasley. When we embarked off the bus we went on a little bush walk up over a steep sand dune to see the view of the beach. We then walked down to the beach and went for a long beach walk and saw the World War 1 & 2 military bunkers along with the famous William Buckley cave. We then walked along on the piers at Pt Lonsdsale & Queenscliff along with learning about the pilot ships and the uses of the Queenscliff Marina. We then enjoyed fish and chips, burgers or pizza for lunch. After lunch we went to see a Naval mine at the Queenscliff rip lookout, followed by a short visit to Swan Bay and learn about the important fish breeding and bird conservation habitat lookout. Finally, we went on a long bus ride back to school.

Year 11

Year 11 Art

Students had to research 2 artists we saw at the NGV Melbourne Now exhibition we visited. They then had to create a hypothetical thematic exhibition including all the features such as  layout, lighting, room temperature and display of artworks. This week each student presented their research and exhibition to the class and did an amazing job!  Hopefully one day they actually open an exhibition as cool as these!

Year 12

Last week our year 12 students were given the opportunity to talk to and learn about a range of supports and strategies to help through the stress of the final months of year 12 and beyond.

VCE students started the session with Sophie from Elevate education talking on how to set up their final few weeks, how to produce a study timetable, ways to study with friends and importantly things to do break the stress – including sleep, break times and exercise.

VCAL students were run through the process and parts of jobs applications and little tricks and things they could do to help them get to the interview stage of applying for jobs.

Both groups of students also had several sessions with Lisa Cooper (School Nurse), Jordan Morgan (School Psychologist) and Emma Cvitak (School Lawyer) providing information on what legal, health and mental health supports are available to school leavers as they begin their post-secondary school life.

Some great prizes were also given out for the day.

Planning is also well underway for both Graduation and the students last couple of days – including their final day - Celebration Day – this year’s theme will be “MOVIE CHARACTERS”.

Just a reminder that some subjects will run special school holiday revision sessions. More information will be given in our next bulletin.
