Children’s Book Week

It’s here! Children’s Book Week is next week.

August 21st-25th is Children’s Book Week with a theme of ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’. During the week there will be competitions and lunchtime activities related to the theme and the books on the shortlist.

Today we will learn which books the CBCA Judges have chosen as the winners in the Book of the Year Awards. These awards celebrate the best books published in the last 12-18 months for children. Our students have been reading the books and making their own selections, giving reasons for their choices and putting a sticker on our voting wall.

Lionel and Me by Corinne Fenton, in the Early Childhood category, has been a runaway winner with our F-2 students. Frank’s Red Hat, Dirt by Sea and Farmhouse are battling it out for our Picture Book Category votes from the Years 3 to 6 students.

Our most important, and fun, part of our celebration is the Book Character Parade on Friday 25th August. Students can come dressed up on the day at no cost. The Parade will be on during Period 1 in the Brigidine Centre. Parents and carers are most welcome to come and join in the fun. Given that the weather is still quite cold, please help your student be warm for the rest of the day.

There are many simple costume ideas out there on the internet but we have included some below for inspiration. Simple coloured t-shirts linked to a book or character, can work really well.
