The Generation Gap

It's a wrap!

"What is the next production going to be, Mrs Murray?"

"Can I be Super Gran next time?"

"Can we do that again? This week?"

"My mum said she was so proud of me."

The production is done and dusted for another two years, but it has left a lasting impression on our students. The children, although tired, are so proud of themselves. They are sharing stories of their performances. I hear them laughing as they recall their nervousness and see them beam with pride as they reflect on their moment on stage.

Once again, I need to recognise and thank ALL of the amazing performers and all those that assisted us - the curtain pullers, the spotlight operators, the prompts, our backstage crew, the ushers, the supervisors, the dressers and those now wading through the piles of washing and folding!!

It is worth mentioning that after an event as big as this, many children experience a 'low' period - they have had a big project, they put a lot of work into its preparation. They’re nervous and excited. Their bodies are flooded with dopamine, cortisol and serotonin. They have spent six months rehearsing intensively. It’s a physical and mental challenge, but through their motivation and dedication, they have created a phenomenal performance. They get to the final performance and they’re completely ecstatic. They’ve done it! Then it all ends. The curtain comes down. The show is over.

Some people just feel a little flat, others describe a ‘sadness’. This is completely normal. The children will bounce back.
