Principal's Report

David Caughey

Dear Parents, Carers, Families and Students,

It is difficult to believe that we are nearing the end of Term 3 already! This term has included a huge range of inspiring and engaging learning experiences for our students. I would like to extend a huge thank you to our fantastic staff for their commitment to organising activities, excursions and events to enhance classroom learning and life at school for our students.

College production – Indelible ink

It was an absolute pleasure to see this year's college production. I was particularly impressed witnessing the interactions between our student performers, their friends, family members and performing arts staff. The cast and staff worked tirelessly to ensure the original script came to life on stage. Our Arts and Technology Leader, Mrs McGloin has provided some insights into this work in this newsletter. She has done a great job in thanking all of the people involved, which means I have the honour of thanking Mrs McGloin on behalf of the school community for her commitment, skills and talents in making this production the success it was.

Pathways and subject selection

As Term 3 progresses our staff are working through the various stages of student course selection. While the majority of students have selected subjects there is still some further work to be done before a draft timetable can be created. In 2023 the College has expanded the range of opportunities and activities for students to learn about different subject opportunities. For the first time our Year 8 and 9 students have been provided with more in depth information about subjects and courses. Improving the importance, frequency and depth of pathways education for our students is a highly important part of our work. Thanks to parents and carers for their support of this work and our course selection processes.

More student events and activities!

Our senior school dance occurred last week with over 250 students (and many of the staff) having a great time. It is great to see our students making the most of this event. Thanks to our student leaders and staff for their effort in making this evening a success. Coming up in September is the State School Spectacular at John Cain Arena. We have many students involved in the large dance and choir group. The event is on Saturday 1st of September. Tickets are available via this link https://johncainarena.com.au/event/victorian-state-schools-spectacular-2023/

Following this event is the 4C’s event at Bunjil place. The 4C’s event runs over three nights and celebrates the range of cultures in the outer southeast of Melbourne. Our students are performing on Monday 11th of September. Tickets for this event are available via Bunjil Place. https://www.bunjilplace.com.au/events/4cs-showcase-cultivating-creative-cultures-communities

Uniform

Thanks to all parents, carers and families for their support of our processes and expectations regarding student school uniform. There continues to be a noticeable improvement in our students arriving for school in full school uniform ready to learn. I would like to remind everyone again that if families are experiencing any barriers or challenges regarding uniform they are encouraged to make contact with the school so we can provide support.

Many thanks again for your ongoing support of the College and our students in Term 3.
