Physical Education

Mrs Sue Burt & Mrs Franca Peluso

Due to my injury, I have not been in a position to write a report. Before the reports, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents and students for their "well wishes". It is nice to be a part of such a supportive and caring community.

It has been a very busy and successful term in the Sport and PE departments - participation and success for many of our Year 6 students in soccer and basketball

YEAR 6 GIRLS SOCCER – REGIONAL FINALS:

On Monday 21st August, the Girls Soccer team played in the Regional finals at Casey Fields. Their first game was against McKinnon Primary School. Considering only Cali and Maddy have played soccer, the girls played well against a team that had many soccer players. They fought hard, but lost the game 3 – 0.

Undeterred by the result of the first game, the girls played extremely well against Berwick. Down one nil, the girls maintained composure and structure to win 2 – 1, with the goals being scored by Cali and Eliza.

In the last game, the girls had to play a very strong Dandenong South team, who had easily won one of their matches 16 – 0. The girls played well, with Hannah, as goalie, making some impressive saves. An amazing effort to only lose 3 – 0 to a very strong team.

Both Mrs Burt, Mr Barren and the wonderful parent supporters have been so impressed with the improved soccer skills, positional play and general understanding of the game since the girls first played in the District competition in June.

Congratulations to our all players:

6/9 – Hannah J, Cali M, Ava P, Luci W, Charlie K

6/10 – Layla B, Maddy B, Scarlett H

6/12 – Mila K, Chelsea D, Layla F, Eliza S, Briella M

DISTRICT BASKETBALL LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP – THURSDAY 24TH AUGUST

On Thursday 24th August, 40 Year 6 students participated in the Murdoch District Lightning Premiership held at Frankston Basketball Stadium. With seven schools making up the District, 29 teams played in the tournament, with approximately 200 students in total participating on the day. There were 5 different pools to cater for the all the diverse skills of the students.

The two Girls team had a mix of Representative, Domestic and Non-Basketball players. Being in the top Pool, they encountered some strong opposition. They combined well to finish with a couple of wins.

Three Boys teams were entered into the 3 different Pools. Once again the teams in Pools B and C had a combination of wins and loses.

The Boys Pool A competition was extremely tight, with Pearcedale, Langwarrin Park and Woodlands finishing on equal points, thus it came down to percentage.

Pearcedale and Langwarrin Park, played off in the Grand Final. With the other Pools completed, all students and staff surrounded the court to watch an amazing game. The atmosphere was electric, the noise deafening, as the two teams went goal for goal. Full time and the scores were tied, so the boys had to play another intense two minutes of over time. And wow, the Langy Park boys managed to hold their nerve and win by 2 points. All the Langy Park students charged onto the court and embraced the players; a fantastic display of camaraderie by our Year 6 students.

As District Champions, the boys will compete in the Divisional Finals next term. Congratulations to Jack T, Benny G, Tahj W, Lincoln T, Ollie A, Hamish C, Mitchell S, Chad L and Super Coach, Mr Hannah.

Thank you to all the parents who attended the event to support our students and teachers. Special thanks must go to Ms O’Neill, Mr Barren and parents Mandy S (scorer for Pool A Boys), Sarah N (assisted with scoring and overseeing the boys team in Pool B) and Jacob T (who coached the girls teams).

ATHLETICS REPORT:

Wow, what a fantastic effort from our students at the District athletics! On Tuesday 29th August, 52 students competed for LPPS in both field and track events. The support the students gave to each other was fantastic. In true Langwarrin Park spirit, all students gave 100% effort and conducted themselves in a manner that the whole school community should be proud of.

We had many students place in the top three in their individual events.  Thirty students placed 1st or 2nd (or 3rd and are now competing as an emergency) in one or more of their events and as a result will now compete in these events at the Northern Divisional competition the first Wednesday of Term 4.

A big thank you to Mrs Peluso, Mr Hannah, Ms Andrews and Mrs Thomson for assisting with officiating duties, supervision and organisation of the students throughout the day. Thank you also to all parents for supporting the students by bringing them to training as well as supporting them on the day.

Congratulations to all the students who were part of the team.
