Breakfast fit for a king!

A big thank you to all our fantastic dads, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and special friends who came along to enjoy our Father's Day Breakfast this morning. Judging by the sheer volume of egg, bacon and hashbrown burgers consumed, it's fair to say the event was a huge hit and appetites were satisfied!

Thank you also to our wonderful community of students, staff, parents/carers and volunteers who helped ensure the breakfast ran smoothly, from flipping eggs and bacon on the barbecues to dishing out plates, churning out countless cups of coffees and hot chocolates, and fundraising for the Father's Day raffle.

We wish all families a happy Father's Day for Sunday!

Science Week extravaganza

There was something to spark the curiosity in all of us last week, with our National Science Week program jam-packed with exciting experiments and mind-bending activities to inspire and engage students across all year levels.

Classrooms were transformed into science labs, making way for eye-opening demonstrations where ping pong balls levitated, balloons expanded—and exploded, and liquids changed colour; students conducted egg drops, enjoyed a hair-raising static experience and tested out the cool effects of liquid nitrogen, while others used their powers of logic to break out of an 'escape room' situation.

Even our youngest budding scientists in milangkani, our birth to five early years program, had the opportunity to discover, explore and engage in a range of fun, age-appropriate STEM activities in our Kinder classroom. What an amazing week!

Celebrating the magic of books

Book characters came to life on Wednesday 23 August for our much-loved and highly anticipated Book Week character parade.

A firm highlight of the school year, Book Week invites our students to share in the wonder and magic of reading and literature.

Students and staff donned costumes inspired by their favourite book characters, with princesses and ninjas, superheroes, sleepy sloths and other wild and curious creatures among those to make an appearance in the Nagle Centre.

Thank you to everyone for your amazing and inventive costume creations. There were so many wonderful outfits and shared stories about much-loved and treasured books.

A big thank you must also go to our Student Resource Centre. Our dedicated library staff worked hard throughout the week to offer our students a full program of events and activities, which included the parade, as well as a writers' workshop, a slam poetry competition and a staff versus student debate which argued the topic, 'We should read our children scary stories'.

While both sides provided some excellent points and plenty of dramatic fair (and some bribery!), our student team were successfully crowned the winners with their negative stance.

Mamma Rosa pasta class

Our Year 9/10 Italian students can now add pasta making to their growing skillset thanks to an entertaining and high-energy workshop delivered recently by the one and only Mamma Rosa.

The Hobart cook, storyteller and comedian walked students through the process of making authentic homemade gnocchi (including the dough) and traditional tomato sauce, with plenty of humour, witty quips and family anecdotes stirred in for good measure.

As they followed her step-by-step instructions, students not only mastered new cooking techniques but brushed up on their language skills too with opportunities to converse in Italian and learn new phrases. And the end result was delicious, with many restaurant quality dishes produced.

Championing her philosophy of ‘No Waste Nutting’, Mamma Rosa also highlighted the importance of minimising food waste by using and reusing food in creative ways and composting the scraps.

Year 8 Design and Technologies

For the past few weeks, students in the woodwork space have been carefully working on their second project – an upholstered stool.

The project introduced the students to the process of incorporating fabrics and trims to basic wood furniture, giving individual pieces personality and flair.

The 13-week rotation in the Design and Wood space allowed the students to build on their skill sets from previous years, as well as explore the many wonderful ways that timber can be celebrated.
