Hey - Geography Field Trip

On Monday, 16th March, Hey students headed out to explore the management and use of our inland water environment here in Mildura. We undertook a tour of the 14th St Water Treatment Plant and learned about the process of taking raw water from the Murray and turning it into potable (drinking) water for household use. While we were there it started raining, so the water experience was more immersive than expected!
After recent rains, the wetlands near the hospital were full of water and birdlife and the weir was cascading merrily. We also enjoyed a tour of the fish ladder and a chat to the Lock 11 master, Mr Kelleher.
The Hey students are now creating Field Reports of their findings and suggestions, with the opportunity to create submissions for the 10-year review of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
Thanks to Mr Faoa for driving us, Ms Jasper for organising and the students for being responsible and inquisitive throughout the trip.
Ask a Hey student if you want to know how many rubbish bins or park benches there are between Lock 11 and the bridge!
