It has been wonderful to welcome back our students and their families to school for Term Four! It is shaping up to be a very busy term with lots of different experiences planned for our Grade One and Two students!

Grade One Students 

This week the students will be learning about the long /i/ vowel sound.

The graphemes (letters) students will be focusing on are ie and igh.  

This includes words such as : pie, lies, night and right.

Students will then revise the long sounds learnt - long a, long e, long o and long i.

Grade Two Students 

This week the students will be learning about the graphemes ar, or and our and the sound that they make at the end of 2 syllable words.

This includes the words doctor, colour and polar.

Students will then learn about the /air/ sound.

They use the graphemes are, air and ear to spell and read words.

This includes the words pair, stare and bear.

Mentor Text: 

This weeks mentor text is The Curious Why.

 This picture storybook encourages students, when bored, to have a little curiosity to develop their understanding of the world around them.

Students will make predictions about the text, focusing on using the clues in the book and their own knowledge to do so. To be curious, asking questions are important and students will learn the difference between open and closed questions.

What can you do at home?

-Nessy is a great literacy resource to use that supplements your child's reading in a fun engaging way on their iPad

-Have your child ask you questions about the books that they are reading.

-Before reading a book, have your child make predictions about the story line.

🧮 Maths

This week, both the Grade One and Two students will explore location. Students will be giving and following instructions to move around familiar places.

What can you do at home?

-Give directions to move to places around your home, or to find an object in your home.

-Practice your child's left and right!

🌏 CBL - Discovery

Our new Big Idea for CBL is Discovery, with a focus on Minibeasts.

Students will be looking at the habitats of these creatures and how they survive.
