News from Performing Arts

Grade 1

Grade 1 children have recently completed their puppetry performances in class. They had the opportunity to watch and evaluate their own drama skills, reflecting on their growth and achievements. Students will now be developing original characters and creating short performances using voice, movement, and expression. Later this term, Grade 1 will begin a Dance unit where they will develop new skills, explore how to communicate through movement, and arrange steps to choreograph their own short dances. They will also learn a dance routine to perform alongside the Preps at their mini concert later in the term in class. The children are doing a fantastic job and showing great expression and creativity!

Grade 3

Grade 3 children recently showcased their Drama skills by performing their chosen scripts to the class. They also had the opportunity to create their own short performances, focusing on using expressive skills to develop a clear character and engaging performance. Afterwards, students watched videos of their work, allowing them to evaluate their drama and performance skills and identify areas for improvement. Later this term, Grade 3 will begin their Dance unit, where they will learn new moves, create their own dance sequences, and analyse various dance genres. They will also learn and rehearse a class dance to perform alongside Grade 2 at their mini concert later in the term.

Grade 4

This semester in Grade 4 we have been focusing on Music. We have been learning to read music notation, build on our singing skills, experimenting with producing interesting sounds on a guitar  and are beginning to write our own composition. The highlight has been learning to play and perform an ensemble piece of music called Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) which is a traditional Jamaican folk song.

Grade 5

The Grade 5 focus this semester has been in the area of Music. We have been experimenting with improvisation and using the Glockenspiel. We have also been learning to write our compositions down in informal notation like stick notation. We have thoroughly enjoyed listening to a large variety of music such as, classical, opera, swing, pop and 60’s and having great discussions around the musical choice from the artists, how it differs from modern music and did we like the music.

What music have you enjoyed listening to the most?

Senadhi - Classical music because I really like listening to it and the calm vibes.

Imogen - I liked listening to Gotye because I really liked the style of his music.
