 STUDENT WELLBEING

Jenny Greenway

Over my teaching years, I have noticed how important routine is to students. They will always let me know if I am not adhering strictly to the timetable, and they prefer to be informed about and discuss upcoming changes in their day well in advance. Predictability helps children in many ways. It makes them feel safe and secure, which lowers anxiety and helps them manage their emotions. When children know what to expect, they become more independent and behave better because transitions are easier. It also supports their thinking and social skills by giving them confidence to explore and interact with others. If you would like to know more about this topic, as I did, here is a link:

VISUAL ART

Next week, we will be holding our annual CNPS Art Show — a wonderful celebration and culmination of all the hard work our students have put into their Visual Arts projects this year.

The Art Show will officially open on Monday, 27th October at 3:00 pm in the Huddle, and parents are warmly welcomed to attend. This year, we are excited to have Mrs P (3/4C class teacher and artist) share her amazing artworks with our community.

The Art Show will then be open every day next week:

8.30 am - 9.00 am and

3.30 pm - 4.00 pm

Our students are very excited to share their creations with you!

PERFORMING ARTS

Performing Arts students have been having jam-packed lessons this term. They continue to learn and develop clapping chants, which help to build their understanding and skill in keeping the rhythm. They have also been using percussive instruments while they are singing.

This week, everybody danced the Macarena, which is a real crowd-pleaser. Students have also been exploring the world of drama, and they are developing their understanding of the elements of drama by either writing or rehearsing scripts.

Last Sunday, a large cohort of our students performed at Festival Indonesia, showcasing dances from around Indonesia. They are also performing at the M-City 5th birthday celebrations this Sunday.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Foundation students will continue to consolidate their catching, running, leaping, throwing, and kicking skills. Students will take part in the simple team game of Kickball, during the first three weeks of Term 4. The aim is for students to improve their kicking, running, catching, and throwing skills. When playing kickball, Foundation students will participate in paired and small group activities. All students will learn the rules and tactics needed to be successful when taking part in a simple team game. There will also be a focus on cooperation skills, fair play, and emotional regulation when you don't win. As long as you try your best, you are always a winner, regardless of the result.

During Term 4, all Foundation students will have a PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) session once a week. The PMP session aims to enhance students' fitness, coordination, tracking, balance, and locomotion skills. During each session, students will rotate among 5 different activities.

Students in Years 1 to 6 will focus on cricket during the first three weeks of Term 4. They will practice essential cricket skills, such as the overhand throw, bowling, and striking a tennis ball with a cricket bat. All participants will also learn the rules and tactics needed to play cricket. Additionally, there will be an emphasis on cooperation skills, fair play, and emotional regulation when faced with defeat. Remember, as long as you try your best, you are always a winner, regardless of the outcome.

Cricket Blast Gala Day

On Friday, October 31, 20 Year 3/4 students will take part in the Cricket Blast Gala Day. There will be both a Girls' team and a Boys' team. Students will compete against teams from our district, with the hope of advancing through the group stages to reach the finals. All participants will train for this event during Year 3/4 PE over the first three weeks of Term 4. For information about this event or to provide your consent, please visit Compass Events.

An after-school Cricket program across four Wednesdays this term, has been taken up with great enthusiasm from the community, with students enrolling  from right across the school. The one-hour coaching sessions are conducted by players from local cricket clubs and Cricket Victoria staff. The Woolworths Cricket Blast is run by Cricket Victoria and was organised by Josie. Registration for this program is now closed, and we thank Josie for making this event happen.
