BYOD @ ENPS - Family Feedback

Thank you to all families who completed our recent Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) survey, as we undertake review of our Digital Technologies curriculum implementation strategy across the school. Your valued feedback helps us to understand how our students and families engage with technology both at school and at home, and will be reviewed in line with Victorian Government announcements regarding changes to digital device use in primary schools.
Community Survey Overview
It was great to see strong engagement from many families, especially our Year Two and Year Five parents. It was clear that Year Five families are starting to thinking ahead about the next stage of students' digital learning and into secondary school. A reminder to our Year Two families that following the recent announcement there will no longer be a Bring Your Own Device 1:1 program in Year Three in 2026, and we will have a school based device program instead in Year Three.
From the survey, nearly 70% of families believe that digital learning plays an important role in their child’s education. Around half of respondents feel that the current BYOD iPad program is working well, while others expressed interest in a mix of school-based device banks and BYOD laptops.
Encouragingly, about three-quarters of families indicated that they would like to learn more about how digital tools are used at school. We see this as a great opportunity to connect with families in future to showcase how devices are used to support learning, and to revisit our Acceptable Use Agreement.
More than two-thirds of families told us that iPads are also used for non-educational purposes at home. Managing screen time remains a challenge for many, so we plan to share some helpful resources, such as the Australian Institute of Family Studies’ article on healthy screentime habits, along with guidance on using parental controls.
Thank you again for your honest feedback and continued partnership to make digital learning purposeful, balanced, and supportive for all ENPS students. As we transition towards upcoming changes, we will use information from our recent review, and our digital technologies implementation to inform and strengthen our Digital Learning Strategy.
