Performing Arts

Hi Everyone!

Woah! It’s been such a creative month in the Performing Arts space already!

Here is what each year level has been busy with…

Foundation

Foundation students have been engaging their senses to learn different dance skills and musical concepts in their ‘Senses help us explore the world’ unit. They have been practising different dance actions such as rolling, turning, jumping and skipping and creating their own dance sequences that they will perform in groups next week.

Year One and Two

It’s all about Music for the Year Ones and Twos this term! Students have been investigating the central idea, ‘We can discover and express ideas through using our voices and musical instruments’. They have listened to different pieces of music and expressed, through movement, how it made them feel. They have also learnt about major and minor scales and learnt how to play them on our brand new glockenspiels!

Year Three and Four

The Year Threes and Fours have been working really hard to express a story about bullying, through movement. First, they created powerful freeze frames that express five moments in the story. Then they practised different dance actions that they will use as a way to link the freeze frames. We look forward to seeing their movement stories next week.

Year Five

The Year Fives have started their unit on 21st Century Dance Video Clips. They are working in small groups to create their own Dance Video clip to a song of their choice.  It’s been wonderful to witness their creative process unfold.  We can’t wait to see the end product in a few weeks’ time!

Year Six

This week was Science Exhibition week! Year Six students have worked so hard on bringing together all the different aspects of their Science Inquiry projects. For Performing Arts, they could choose any modality to express their line of inquiry. Most students decided to record their project, either in the form of a rap, demonstration video or podcast. We hope you enjoyed the Performing Arts recordings that were showcased on a big screen at yesterday's Exhibition!

If you have any questions about the term ahead, please come and see us in the Performing Arts space!
