Year One

Insect-a-Mania and Minibeasts
On the 10th of October, the Year Ones attended the ‘Insect-a-Mania and Minibeasts’ incursion as part of our fifth unit of inquiry, Sharing the Planet, with the central idea; ‘Minibeasts play a role in our world’.
Students were engaged in an interactive one-hour workshop where they saw and learnt about minibeasts which call Melbourne home including a huge selection of insects, myriapods, arachnids, annelids, crustaceans, echinoderms and two predators. The animals were amazing, but the sea star, spider crab and tarantula deserve a special mention! The predators that Liv, our presenter, brought to show us were a bird called a tawny frog mouth and a mountain pigmy possum. The mountain pigmy possum was very small and adorable! When safe to do so, students got to touch and hold the animals.
We hope you enjoy the pictures from the incursion!
