Principal's Report

Dear Families, Students and Community Members,
Today we celebrated the final day of our Year 12 students and their formal classes. Next Tuesday many of them will sit their first exam and we wish them all the best. This is a momentous occasion as we recognise the successful completion of 13 years of formal schooling and acknowledge the contributions our Year 12 students have made to Maffra Secondary College. We wish them every success and happiness in whatever they pursue moving forward.
School Review update
In Term 3 we underwent our school review which occurs every 4 years. I would like to thank Peter Neaves (School Council President) for his contribution to the review and being an active member of the review panel. Our challenge partners were outstanding and provided constructive feedback, probing questions and shared great insights into our college. They were extremely valuable members of the Panel. Our Reviewer, Branko Lukic, coordinated the whole process extremely well and was fantastic in his approach to the process. He provided ongoing feedback throughout the process and was well received by the panel for his thoughtfulness and positivity for our college and improving the outcomes for all our students.
The Final School Review Report from our Reviewer has now been received and next week I will share the new School Strategic Plan 2026 – 2029 with School Council. Following this, I will provide information to our school community. I would like to thank the parents/carers who provided feedback and shared their thoughts on different aspects of the College and those that participated in the parent focus groups with our Reviewer. We also had a wide variety of students involved in focus groups during the review and many more who provided feedback through their year level focus groups. Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their thoughts. It has helped to develop our direction over the next 4 years, and we are excited where this will take us.
Student leadership
This week we have been holding interviews for our 2026 School Captains and Vice Captains and following on from this, they will be addressing the student body and staff at a whole school assembly on Monday. The selection process for captains and vice captains has 4 components and is quite rigorous. There is a written application process, and students need to get two staff and a student endorsement to support this. Interviews are then held with a student representative, staff representative and members of the principal team and finally there is a speech in front of the school community where students and staff then have an opportunity to have input into who the Captains and Vice Captains for 2026 will be. Each component is weighted equally and results collated. We look forward to sharing the outcome of this in the coming weeks. Once these roles are finalised, then interviews will begin for the other leadership positions and the 2026 student leadership team finalised by the end of the year.
Planning for 2026
Very shortly you will be receiving the 2026 booklist and subject costs. Please keep an eye out for these and place your orders and payments by the due date. On Friday 7th November we have our first full day transition program for our incoming Year 7 students. All of the part day transitions have been very successful so far and we look forward to welcoming these students in a fortnight.
Yours sincerely,
Ms. Jennifer Roep
Principal
