WHAT'S ON

Welcome to Term Four! It's already been quite a busy start and it's only set to get busier!

It was great to see so many students and their families attend our Student-Led conferences. Being the first time we have organised something like this, the feedback was super positive and it was really encouraging to see how students presented their goals and progress and how this was received by parents!

Reminders:

  • Swimming notices to be returned
  • Grade 6 Camp Permission forms & Deposit
  • Filming Permission - Mr Melder's Research Project
  • Krispy Kreme Orders

IN OUR LEARNING

Here's a little recap of what we've been covering in the classroom:

Reading: Our focus text for this term is a 2025 award-winning book called 'Laughter is the Best Ending'. We have started the term exploring this text, including character development, story structure, themes and text-connections. We are about to start developing summarising skills and looking how to identify what information is important or not when creating a summary.

Writing: We have started the term with a focus on persuasive writing. Students have developed their use of the TEEL structure to create well-supported arguments. In the first week, students had the choice of topic they wished to argue. In Weeks 2 and 3, the topic has been 'Plastic is Fantastic' or 'Plastic is NOT Fantastic'.

We will continue to look at how to improve the quality of work through vocabulary choices and strong evidence and explanation.

Maths: Our current Maths focus is data and statistics. We have started the unit by exploring how to collect relevant data and displaying this in the most suitable type of graph. We are now completing a short research project, where students will locate data, experiment with different types of graphs (bar graphs, pie charts, box plots and stem & leaf plots) and then analyse this data and the effectiveness of their collection and displays.

Humanities: We have just made a start to our Civics & Citizenship Unit, where we will explore election and voting processes, how governments are formed and how laws are made. Students will have an opportunity to 'run for president' as part of the fun of this unit!

SPECIAL EVENTS

Cardinia Writing Project Showcase – Last term, our school joined John Henry, Bayles, Lang Lang and Tooradin Primary Schools by participating in the Cardinia Writing Project!

Every student wrote a story based on the theme of 'Fantastical Adventures'

The Writing Showcase was held at Johny Henry on Wednesday, where our finalists ( Form 5/6 - Pragna, Victoria, Jarryd, Jake, Aiden and Harlow) were able to show off and share their work, read other students' stories and meet the wonderful children's author, Ingrid Laguna!

A very special congratulations to Harlow, who won the Year 5 Section with her story, "Why Now?"!
