Good afternoon OPS families,
We have had a great start to Term 4 with lots of great learning opportunities for our community. I would like to thank all of the staff, students and parents for helping to make our student led conferences a success last Thursday. It was fantastic hearing students share their reflections with their families and the feedback from many parents was it was wonderful to hear their child/children talk about their learning and successes at school. Reflective thinking supports learners to develop their goal setting skills helping them to evaluate information based on their ideas and experiences which then support students to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners.
Everyone's An Author - Cardinia Network Writing Showcase
Last week various students from Prep to Grade 6 were invited to share their writing at the Cardinia Network Writing Showcase. Throughout Term 3 the students at OPS wrote their own story with the theme of adventure. The showcase was an opportunity for OPS students to share their writing with students, staff and community members from Tooradin Primary, Bayles Primary, Lang Lang Primary and John Henry Primary. Author, Ingrid Laguna came along and shared her passion for writing with us and students were able to meet her. The aim of the project is to encourage students to love writing and sharing their ideas through stories, listening to the conversations amongst the students, teachers and families at the showcase it is certainly clear that our young author love writing. Congratulations to all students for their outstanding writing- also a very special congratulations to Harlow, who won the Year 5 Section with her story, "Why Now?"!
2026 Step Into Prep Program
On Thursday we welcomed many of our 2026 prep students for their first Step Into Prep session. The session ran in our Library with our 2026 Preps engaging in story time and then circle time with Mrs Palmer and Ms Dyt. Our next session is Wednesday 5th of November where our 2026 Prep students will have the opportunity to visit the STEAM room with Ms Dyt and play some games with Mrs Waldron.
Sandpit Opening
We are very excited to be able to celebrate our sandpit upgrade which has been made possible through the fundraising efforts of the OPS community over the last 12 months. Next Friday we will be celebrating the official opening of our sandpit after the upgrade. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community All families are welcome and they stay for assembly afterwards.
Uniform Survey
Thank you to all the OPS families that have completed the uniform survey, it has been excellent to hear your feedback on our current uniform and the changes that you would like to see to our uniform. The early feedback from the community survey indicates that families would like to see a change to the pants/shorts/skort colour from our royal blue to black. As school uniform can be a significant cost for families any changes that we make to our uniform will be gradual, over a 12 to 18 month time period. The timeline for the change of colour of our pants/shorts/skort will be that students are able to wear black pants/shorts/skort as of Term 1 2026. We understand that it can be costly to replace uniform; therefore the royal blue pants/shorts/skort will be phased out throughout 2026.
We will be discussing the uniform policy at our next school council meeting with a key focus on the colour of the pants/shorts/skort, a copy of the policy is available on Compass for parents to view the suggested changes.
