Christmas Celebrations

We are one week away from the best family night on the school calendar.  On Thursday, we invite families to join us on the school oval from 5:30pm for a BYO picnic (Gates will open no earlier than 5:00pm because of stage and tech set up).  Bring along some nibbles, a picnic rug or camp chair and find a spot to watch the carols from.  Please note this is a pet, alcohol and smoke and vape-free event.

Sausages will also be sold on the night, (until sold out) to raise funds for our school.

The canteen will also be open and selling drinks, ice creams and snacks between 5-6pm.

Raffle tickets can also be bought during this time, so please bring small change.

6:00-7:30 (approx) Concert

The Concert will begin at 6:00pm with choir performances, followed by class groups performing one Christmas song each.  Students will be required to sit with their classes at the front of the stage area during this time.

During the evening, our Christmas raffle prizes will be drawn.

And finally, a very special guest is also expected to visit us on the night. The event will finish by approximately 7:30pm.

It is important to note that after receiving some feedback from previous years Carols, this year there will be a change to the seating arrangements for the event.  As you can see below we will again  having two separate seating areas to choose from.  You can choose to sit on a chair around the outside of the field  (please see pink shaded area below) or you can choose to sit in the middle area towards the back on a blanket (please see blue shaded area below).  These changes have been made to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to see their students perform without hinderance, these seating arrangements will be strictly enforced on the night.

Christmas Raffle

Thank you to all of our families who have donated items for our upcoming Christmas Raffle. We have now received a number of items that will be made up into hamper prizes. The raffle will be drawn at our Christmas Carols.  Tickets are $1.00 each and can be purchased from our SRC at the school gate next week or from the office.  If you are unable to attend the event, we will notify you the following day if you have won.

Money raised from the raffle will help us to save for a new bike shed in the future, that we hope to place near the Foundation gate entrance.

2026 Student Leaders

We have recently completed the process for selecting our 2026 Year 6 Student Leaders. Our students had to go through a rigorous selection process. Students prepared an application, a written speech that was read to their peers and teachers and attended a formal interview with a panel of 5 people comprising of our 2025 Student Captains, Ms Longmuir, Mr Russell, Ms Couacaud and myself.

All applicants were asked to answer a number of questions about their initiative, strengths and skills and what they would bring to Clyde PS as School Leader.  The selection of the four leaders was based on the demonstration of outstanding qualities during the selection process and their capacity to rise to the challenges leadership will bring.

A big congratulations goes to:

New Social Media Age Restrictions

From 10 December 2025, the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 will require social media platforms to:

· prevent children and young people under 16 from having a social media account

· deactivate or freeze existing accounts held by people under 16.

Delaying access to social media protects the health and wellbeing of young people and gives them extra time to build real world connections and digital literacy skills.

The responsibility will be on the social media platforms, not parents, carers, children or schools, to implement these new restrictions.

Most popular social media platforms will be age restricted. These include Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Reddit and YouTube.

Messaging services and online games, as well as apps and platforms that support health and education, can still be used.

Free webinars

There are also free 30-minute webinars coming up, that will help parents and carers understand the upcoming changes to social media access for children under 16.

These are to help parents to:

• understand the purpose of the new age restrictions and how they aim to protect young Australians

• understand which platforms will require users to be 16+ and what platforms they can still access

• get tips and resources to support your child’s online safety and wellbeing through the transition.  Parents and carers will gain: • a clear understanding of the new rules and their implications • confidence in guiding their child through these changes • access to trusted resources to support safe and positive online engagement.

Please click here to see the times/dates of the wbinars and to regisetr.

What the change means for our school

At our school, most age-restricted social media platforms are blocked for student use on the school network. Our school allows student access to YouTube in a logged-out state. However, this access is restricted so mature content cannot be viewed. To keep up to date about the new social media age restrictions, visit the eSafety website and subscribe to their newsletter.

Emergency Practise

As part of our Occupational Health and Safety obligations, we are required to run a different type of emergency drill each term.

This term, we will be practising our shelter-in-place procedure. In the event of a bushfire, a Shelter-In-Place may be used as a central assembly point prior to an evacuation or as a last resort when evacuation from the site is no longer a viable option.

This drill will serve as an opportunity for learning, reflection and refinement of our processes moving forward. The main goal is for all staff and students to safely move to their designated shelter locations within a reasonable timeframe.

Thank you for your understanding as we continue to prioritise safety across our school.

Important Dates

Library books must be returned before Friday 6th December (next week)

Our last day for the canteen is Friday 15th of December.

Whole School Transition

Our whole school transition has now begun with students having completed two transition sessions where they have stepped up into next year’s level.  The aim of these sessions have been around supporting students to prepare and adapt to a new year level and to assist the school in creating ‘best fit’ classes for 2026.

Our next whole school transition sessions is on Tuesday 9th December. Is session will be a whole day where students will meet their teachers for 2026 and their classmates. They will participate in a range of activities and will begin building their relationships with their new class. Your child will come home with a letter at the conclusion of this session with who their teacher is and what their class is called eg: 1A.

A further transition session is scheduled after lunch on Tuesday 16th December after lunch to again connect with their class and teacher.
