Farmer Darryl
Our Foundation students were thrilled to welcome Farmer Darryl and his mobile animal farm to St Augustine’s this week. The children loved meeting, caring for and feeding the friendly farm animals, including chickens, goats, and a calf called Oreo. It was a hands-on learning experience that helped students understand more about animals, farms and caring for living things. There were lots of smiles, gentle pats and even a few giggles as the animals made themselves at home in our schoolyard.
Religious Education
In Religious Education, our Foundation students have been exploring the theme ‘We Are Special’. They have been learning that God made each of us unique and wonderful. To celebrate this, the children created beautiful mobiles featuring three things that make them special. Their colourful drawings reflected their individual gifts, interests and personalities, reminding us all that we are loved just as we are.
Home Reading/Tricky Words
A friendly reminder to families about the importance of daily home reading. Regular reading at home helps children build confidence, fluency and a love of books. Please remember to record and sign your child’s reading diary each day as we continue to track nights of reading and celebrate these in the classroom. Please also keep practising the ‘tricky words’ together - these are the words children need to recognise instantly to support smooth and successful reading. Thank you for your continued support in developing your child’s reading skills.
Years 1 and 2
Welcome back for Term 4!
Thank you to those families and students who are ensuring we all have our hats to wear during recess, lunch and any other outside events.
We are busy preparing for our Grandparents and Special Friends Mass next week and would love to see everyone who is able to attend pop into our classrooms after the Mass for some activities.
In RE this term we are beginning with a unit titled 'Our Call to Mission'. Students are developing their awareness of how to be like Jesus by caring for others in need. We have enjoyed stories of friendship such as The Rainbow Fish.
In Inquiry we are starting a unit about Dreamtime Stories. Students enjoyed learning about the totem animal of the Yorta Yorta people which is the long-necked turtle and listening to the story of How the turtle got its shell. We are looking forward to exploring more stories and learning some indigenous words for some common words we use each day.
We have settled back into the routines of school after our two-week holiday and have been impressed with how well students are continuing to follow the 5 L's of learning and our entry and exit routines within the learning spaces.
Years 3 and 4
This term we have welcomed students back and settled in quickly for a fun, exciting and action packed few months. In Religious Education we have started a new unit on Reaching out and serving others where we are learning about the many ways Jesus did this and how we can do these things in our lives. We designed a graffiti wall in each learning space depicting the messages from Romans 12: 9-13.
In Literacy, we have begun a new novel in each learning space. The Year 3s are reading The one and only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. The Year 4s are reading His name is Walter by Emily Rodda.
In Maths, both classes are focusing on data representation and in Inquiry we are learning about where in the world is Australia? Focusing on continents and different interesting facts.
One of our talented Year 4 students has been busily working over the last two terms on this amazing Indigenous artwork and proudly displayed it in the Year 4 TA space. Well done Jeremy!
