Loddon Mallee Athletics
Early this term, selected secondary and primary students have progressed through the Loddon Mallee and Regional round of athletics.
Thursday last week saw our team of 10 secondary students depart for Bendigo. This was one of our most successful days at this level for quite some time.
- Zac W finished 2nd in Javelin and followed this up with a 1st place in the 1500m in a brilliant finish.
- Cooper O powered his way home in the 400m leaving nothing in the tank to cross the line in 1st place.
Tyson M had a strong performance, finishing 3rd in discus.
Maddie R fought hard in her 80m hurdles finishing in 2nd place.
Bill H had a massive day competing in the 3000m in the morning before, coming in 1st place in both the 1500m and 800m events later in the day.
Our 12/13 girls relay team entered the back straight within touching distance of the lead and held on for a 3rd place finish.
On Monday, the primary students were given the same opportunity to compete in the Regional Athletics in Bendigo. Eight students enjoyed their bus ride over with Mrs Robinson before trying their absolute best in their events for the day. April W was incredible, finishing 2nd in her 11 girls Shot Put, advancing her through to the state competition. Paige D finished 3rd in the 12/13 Girls High Jump, marginally missing out on a spot in the state final.
Well done to everyone who participated in this level of competition and good luck to all who have progressed to the State Championships in the next two weeks.
Years 5/6 Summer Sports
The sun was out and shining on the 26-degree, 5/6 Waranga Summer Sports day. Students from local primary schools all banded together to try their hand at sports they don't usually engage in.
Students at The Northern Oval were treated to a clinic of soft crosse, T-ball and ultimate frisbee from our very own Mr Busch. Students at the Tongala Oval had the opportunity to participate in hockey, mini tennis and frisbee golf, facilitated by Kyabram P-12 College. Remaining students engaged in pickleball and spike ball in the Brigidine Centre thanks to Mr Coombs, lawn bowls thanks to the Kyabram Lawn Bowls Club members and croquet thanks to the Kyabram Croquet Club members.
This is one of our favourite days on the sporting calendar, and it was nothing short of extreme fun! Well done to all of the teachers who planned and facilitated the event and all of the amazing students who participated.
Years 7-10 Girls Cricket
Picture this - freshly cut grass, sun shining bright and blue skies. This was the sight our Years 7-10 girls Super 8s cricket teams were treated to on their first day back at school.
Our three teams made the short trek to the Kyabram Rec Reserve to have a crack at Super 8s cricket. For most of our girls, this was their first attempt at the format. Our girls competed against schools from Rochester, Kyabram P-12, St Joe's, SMOTA and Nathalia across the day. Although not many results ended in our favour, the girls had a go and learnt a few new skills along the way.
