Dino-Mite Book Fair

Our Dino-mite book fair is in full swing, and the kids are having a fantastic time exploring all the books on offer!  All students from Prep to Year 7 will have the opportunity to visit the fair in class time, and create a ‘wish-list’ of items they might like.  Please keep your eyes open for your child’s wish-list, and take the time to discuss with them the items they have selected.  Instructions on ordering and payment are attached to their list.

Merbein Colour Run Friday 21st November 2025

Hi Merbein P-10 College families,

We are holding a School Colour Fun Run this year. We will be raising funds in the lead up to our event for student requested items such as water misters in play ground, upgraded basketball court areas, variety of sports equipment and (hopefully) for a slushie machine for Friday specials ready for summer!

We are super excited to announce that we will be holding our event on 21st November!

What is the School Fun Run?

It is an online fundraising program, where all families go home and create their own online profile. You then choose your target prizes and work towards hitting your target! In your profile you will have a unique cyber safe link to share with your family and friends to donate to get you close to your target. Is this compulsory? Absolutely not. It is completely up to the individual or family.  Just by creating a profile students can go into a draw to win weekly prizes for their class or for the individual.

All we need you to do this week is create an online profile at funrun.com.au

Keep an eye out for the Wristband Competition for a chance to win a $500 Prize Credit!

Any student who has raised at least $5 will receive a pair of sunnies for the colour run.

Week 1 there is a competition whoever raises $10 or more go in the draw to be one of 5 winners for $10 CANTEEN VOUCHER!

The leading fundraisers after week 3 will go into having the privilege of sliming an array of principals, teachers and student leaders in front of the whole school.

Yours faithfully, The SRC x

School is better when your child is there

Why is it important?

We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.

If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school.

There is no safe number of days for missing school - each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.

Days missed = Years lost

1 day per fortnight = they miss 4 weeks per year and over 1 year of their schooling life

1 day per week = they miss 8 weeks per year and over 2.5 years of their schooling life

Top attendance tips for parents

  • Merbein P10 wants to work in partnership with parents - act early if you have any concerns by contacting your child's school and asking for advice and support
  • Remember that every day counts
  • There is no safe number of days for missing school - each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes and their social connectedness
  • Talk positively about school and the importance of attending every day
  • Open and prompt communication with the school about all absences is a good idea
  • Avoid making routine medical and dental appointments during the school day or planning family holidays during the term
  • Seek help from your school if you are concerned about your child's attendance and wellbeing.  The school wants to work in partnership with parents to support student attendance and wellbeing.

Kiss & Go Usage and Safe Driving

Our senior school SRC Leaders have expressed their concern about the way many of our parents are misusing the 'Kiss & Go' area at the front of the school. This space is not to be used if you intend to get out of your car and meet your child in the school yard. You must remain in your vehicle and move on as soon as your child meets you and is safely in your car. This helps to avoid the build up of traffic and keeps our children safe. If you need to stop or get out of your car, please use the parking area at the rear of the school near Game Street.

Our school leaders have also observed a number of vehicles completing U Turns in the front of the school which is extremely dangerous at drop off and pick up times. Please drive on until you have cleared the busy school area before completing a U Turn, or preferably just drive around the block, as this will improve student safety markedly in the front of the school.

Primary students in particular should be dropped off on the school side of the road and not expected to cross the busy Commercial Street to enter school, as this is very dangerous pratice.

A big thanks to our student leaders for monitoring this area and thank you for helping to keep our children safe!
