Principal's Report

Welcome to our first newsletter for 2025! Our newsletters are published every second week (even weeks) to provide parents and our community with information about school events and programs. We also use this platform as an opportunity to acknowledge our student and staff achievements.  You will notice our "Community Announcements" section at the end of the newsletter. This section is designed to promote events happening in our community.  If you have information about an upcoming event, please email the details to the school as we are happy to help promote not for profit and community organisations.

Our newsletter will be published as an electronic version however, if any family would like a printed copy, please contact the office.

Structure Changes for 2025

Our school has transitioned back to 2 Departments:

Primary - Kindergarten to Year 6

Secondary - Year 7 to Academy (Year 12)

Our school times are set as follows:

Primary students:  9.15am-3.15pm

Secondary Students:  9.00am-3.15pm

You will have noticed in my Term 1 Welcome Information letter sent home last week, that we have also re-aligned our executive staff to support students and programs across the school.  One of the biggest changes for our secondary students, is the creation of Year Advisors, with a role to support student wellbeing and to be a link between home and the school.

Year Advisors for 2025:

Year 7 - Sam Brown

Year 8 - Steph Looker

Year 9 - Danielle Rabaud

Year 10 - Jodie Taylor

Year 11 - Jason Auld

Year 12 - Lou Upjohn

We encourage parents to contact your child's year advisor if you have any questions about your child's learning and wellbeing at school.

Swimming Carnival 2025

Congratulations to all students who participated and competed at our swimming carnival last Friday.  It was so great to see students competing and supporting each other. What a fantastic day.  Congratulations to the Lawahna team for winning the carnival on the day. I thank Sam Brown, Jodie Taylor and their teams for making the day such a success.

Assemblies in Term 1

Due to the late start to school, we will hold two assemblies in Term 1.  Our assemblies are an opportunity for us to showcase the wonderful learning occurring in our classrooms at Uralla Central School.

Assemblies in Term 1

Tuesday 4 March - 10am

Tuesday 1 April - 10am

School Photo Day - Tuesday 25 March

Our school photos will be taken on Tuesday 25 March from 9am. Students must be in full school uniform on the day.  Our school uniform shop is open every school day.

Uralla Show Success

It was just wonderful to attend the Uralla Show last Saturday and see the incredible results our school and our students achieved. In every area of the pavilion, we have First, Second and Highly Commended cards with our students' names appearing all over them. I particularly congratulate Jett Williams on being awarded Boy Champion for his artworks:

Billy Sharpe was also awarded Champion for his Lang Shank Chicken:

Please see further photos and results throughout the newsletter.  We will present a full presentation of awards at our next assembly.

Australia Day Award

I congratulate Breanna Smith on being awarded Junior Sportsperson of the Year at the Australia Day Awards. What a wonderful achievement Breanna.  Congratulations from us all!

Congratulations Jett and Billy!

We also congratulate Jett Williams and Billy Sharpe on winning junior golf events at Tenterfield over the summer break.  Both boys played as part of the Uralla Golf Club Juniors in the championships.

School Uniform

Our school sells Uralla Central School uniform items here at school at cost prices to assist families in being able to ensure students wear correct uniform each day. To ensure the safety of students and staff, covered shoes are also required, this is mandatory, particularly for practical subjects such as food tech, industrial arts, etc.  The school will happily help families who need financial support, to ensure all students have access to our uniform.  Thank you for assisting us to keep our students looking great!

NAPLAN - Years 3, 5, 7 and 9

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. This year, students will sit the assessments at selected times from Wednesday 12 March until Monday 24 March.

NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national proficiency standards.

NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.

Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will complete the NAPLAN tests online (except for Year 3 Writing).

As always, if you have any questions of concerns, please contact us at the school.

2025 National Service Commemoration Day

Thank you to our Senior School Captains Connor and Imogen for representing our school at last Sunday's National Servicemen's Commemoration Service in Armidale. Our students play a vital role in this annual event where we hold the official flags for the fallen soldiers who were from Uralla.

Have a great week!
